I am no expert but I "think" the fault is with Sky. They are the company that requested the money on a date you had not agreed to.
As options has said the "direct debit guarantee" means that you can request your bank to cancel and refund this payment.
Should Lloyds of paid Sky and put you overdrawn in the first place? Well its a bit of a difficult one to answer. It could be argued that they were being helpful by making sure that your bills were paid. Rather than declining payment. Or you could say that they were just out to make money from you in the form of fees!

As I say, I view a bank as a place to hold/store my currency, I do not expect them to become my accountant also.
Maybe other people do want this service?
I know the truth of the draconian nature of these entities.0 -
@ Opinions4U... I don't see why I need to pay for the 'luxury' of my bank leaving ALL decision making to myself.
It's a matter of opinion, I'm sure.
I'm about to explore other banking alternatives now.0 -

Other people manage fine with a bank account. You don't. Use an alternative.
Not a bad idea... Mate.0 -
Hmmm.. You asked for advice and it was given, if you choose to change banks then it's up to you.
However, I think all banks would do the same.0 -
I find it immoral. Not that that's surprising..
No, I'm not surprised by you thinking that, either.
Irrespective of the ins and outs of what happened here, it sounds like you'd be doing yourself a favour if you don't run your account down to zero each month. You hopefully have a savings account with some emergency cash, so why not transfer a couple of hundrred from that into your current account?
That way, if there is ever a date mismatch between a small payment coming or going, it won't cost you a penny.0 -
How about you run your account better, you might find this might not have happened.0

If my posts scares away people affected by capital letters, I'm sure I sharn't miss them too much.. First rule of internet communication.. Ignore the grammar and spelling Nazi's.
Actually the first rule of internet communication is to not use caps on forums or emails. It's considered as shouting and therefore rude.0
