Tastecard

Options
Hi, can someone give me some advice please. I had an email from Tastecard advising they would automatically renew my membership on 27th November. I emailed them to say I didn't want this. However, today I get an email to say they have renewed and the pack is in the post. I have rung up and said I had already told them I did not want this, she said I had sent the email to the "do not reply" address, which I didn't as it quite clearly says I sent it to the enquiries@tastecard.co.uk address. However she said they can not cancel as it was in their terms and conditions that this was automatically renewed. She wasn't very helpful and I am now £35 worse off. What should I do as I can't afford this.

  • Have you checked the terms of your contract with them? It may have given specific details about the process to follow for cancellation - if you haven't followed that process (ie sent the request to the wrong address or emailed when you should have sent a letter/phoned) then you may be out of luck.

Tastecard are evil. You need to cancel your
continuous payment with the bank as well to avoid this sort of thing

Find out precisely what their cancellation procedure is. If you've followed it do as below:

Contact your card provider and ask that they cancel the continuous payment authority. If they say they can't remind them that the right to cancel via the card provider is stipulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. This will prevent further payments being taken but the bank is under no obligation to return your £35.

Email tastecard enclosing a copy of the original email and request that they return your money within 30 days. Ask also that they acknowledge your request for payment and email their agreement within 7 days.

If they don't respond within 7 days or don't return your money within 30, send them a letter before action asking that they return your money within 14 days else you'll take them to the small claims court. Don't actually bother doing this unless you want to prove a point - the fees, despite being small, will be more than £35.
