  • It's only secure as in the client is the only one with the code, which was left on view for several days.
The client and his company are aware, and have been for years, that the guards watch films on nightshifts, just weren't aware it was their internet sometimes. He was reported by his manager two months after the manager became aware.

  • He needs to find out what they will put in his reference. It may just be confirmation of dates and role as this is all some companies offer anyway.
If thats the case then he doesnt need to say anything.
Its upto the new company what they think is satisfactory or not. Some places dont even bother checking references.
  • They say he has 3 choices
    1) wait it out to see if he can go back
    2) immediate resignation, disciplinary not concluded, clear basic ref, no notice pay (it'd be 1,500)
    3) resign with notice but chance disciplinary resulting in dismissal and it being on ref

Firstly - start your own thread as your issue is completely different from this threads origins.

Secondly - apologise to the company that you work(ed) for and ask them if they can agree on a reference and what will be mentioned to anyone who asks.

Thirdly - Are there any other consequences of this fight? eg. legal action, police arrest etc? Take those into account for whether they effect what jobs you will be able to get in the future.
  • So, he used the code to access their Wi-Fi to watch films when he was being paid to work?

Is it supposed to be a 'secure' system?

    How did they find out?

    Packet sniffing.

Nothing at all like that. He foolishly told a colleague he thought he could trust and it eventually got back to management.

He resigned and his new job starts in January :)
