explaining dismissal to new employer

How is best to reply when asked about leaving previous job if you're dismissed? Are there any ways to limit the damage, so to speak?
Is a dismissal a hard limit for most employers, or are people more open-minded?

I think it would be better if you asked the questions on the end of your previous threads as some answers will overlap. I cant speak for most employers, Ive spoken about my own experiences after being dismissed from a job 10 years ago, I was honest about what happened to me, it made little difference to getting work and I had another job 6 weeks later, however everyones story is different.

Lots of people get sacked every single day, you can see that by the number of people who end up at tribunal.

    ^^^^ this.

It depends on the reason for the dismissal in most cases.

  • Sorry, I tend to post separately as it's easier for people to spot things that could be relevant to their own situations if the advice isn't in one long post.

Just makes it harder for people to advise you when information is scattered across lots of smaller threads. For example, you wouldn't know from this thread that its a potential dismissal due to gross misconduct.

Just be honest as well as with the job centre. It's much better than them finding out later.

  • Never hurts to start thinking about these things imho. His meeting is Friday so I'm expecting it to be over by the weekend after having a chat with a solicitor online. Obviously he'll appeal, but finding another job is the priority really.

You've not given enough detail anywhere to give any solid advice.
