I think the real answer has been mentioned above, sell it. Fingers crossed your job and company car will continue for a long time and as you have had no use for old faithful in the past couple of months, is that likely to change?
Always a healthy demand for well looked after diesels and yours is going to do nothing but depreciate in front of your eyes and become a local landmark.
  • One good benefit though is you could start and drive the car in all gears at any speed for 15 minutes once a month to keep it all running well whilst blocked up and wheeless, don't forget the clutch can rust in place just like a parking brake.

Cant drive it as no Insurance or TAX....

But will look at greasing the Discs with some good old spray greece this weekend if i get time...and taking hand brake off is a MUST for this weekend.......

If not it will have to wait a few more weeks till Xmas when i am off for a few days.

lets hope its not locked up....it was ok when i moved it about 5 weeks ago so hopefully should still be ok...

Discs did look bad....but again hopefully its just cosmetic rust on surface and no permanent damage to them....yet...

I meant you could drive it at any speed in any gear if it was blocked up, preferably wheels off.

If you're going to grease the discs suggest you first move the car backwards and forwards on your drive with brakes on (use all three legs for this..;)..) to remove the rust, and you should remove the pads completely (before greasing but after driving..;)..)or they will get contaminated.

NAHHH...sounds too much work....Ill just slap some oil over the 4 discks and worry about the contamination later....

It'll be right....Whats the worse that can happen.....ill rear end someone when i finally drive it....

But its fine...Ill have insurance by then..... :)
  • What car is it, an 2007 Octavia/Golf/A4 must be worth at least £4,000 with a years MOT and 6 months tax.....£1000 less with no tax/short MOT.

I don't think its the depreciation that's going to be the biggest cost I mean how much is it going to go down in value in 12 months.....leave it long enough and it will be "low mileage" !!

It will be putting it back on the road when/if you decide you need it again, tyres perished, rusty brake discs, valet, diesel pump/injector issues, servicing etc etc, cars will need servicing every year even if they are not driven...one of the reasons why I don't buy from motor traders...cars just sitting on a forecourt for months on end.....poor sucker buys one and within a few weeks/months they have major issues....just look at some of the treads on here after folk buying from dealers.

Stick it on ebay, classified advert (£14.99 for 30 days, no fees, no non-bidders) with loads of photos with a reasonable price tag and be honest about it not being driven...it will sell if its priced well.

there are youtube videos on this. If you like the car enough you shjould also remove the wheels altogether and put it on bricks/axle stands to prevent flat spots on the tyres.

Vectra 1.9 Diesel, 130K, 2006 reg. by my best calculation its worth about 1.5K give or take...

have all MOT's from previous few years and full service upto 110K (i think)....the last 20K no stamp...but i culd get one now at 130K.

    Im seeing a theme here..Sell sell sell....Ummmmmmmm....

I was holding onto it because it is so SO reliable and ive only just recently changed the CAM belt too.

    Decisions decisions...ConfusedDotCom
  • Oh yeah, didn't think of a Vectray....they can be had very cheaply.

    I say flip a coin !!

  • I'll see what happens with work over the next few months and decide in Late Jan/Feb.

A few more months is not going to make world of difference to the value or condition.

I will do some of the things suggested here. Over the weekend and at Xmas when I have some time off and then late Jan/Feb decide on the sell/no Sell.

Hopefully i should know for definite by then one way or another about the possibility of becoming Perm. Or not.

there was no guarantee that I would get another for that much that would be as reliable.
I agree it would be hard to get one as reliable as your car was.
But I don't think it would be hard to get one as reliable as your car _will be_ after sitting still for all that time.

When do you hear about the contract extension? Maybe wait until then and sell if you get it?
