Can Travelodge relet your room if you have already paid for it?

The one and only time my wife and I have been abroad for a holiday we booked a travelodge to stay in the night before our flight as it was at 6 am, the hotel was fairly close to the airport and it was the closest one we could find that had a room available for a wheelchair user. We turned up an hour after we could have checked into the hotel and they had given the room to someone else, there were no other rooms available that night for wheelchair users that were close enough to the airport so we could get there in time for our flight. We ended up spending the night in the airport which left my wife in agony as she was unable to lie down. It took months for them to refund the cost of our room.0

I can fully understand overbooking where people pay little or no penalty for dropping out at the last minute (eg. cancellation up to 4pm on the day of arrival), but I think it is very, very wrong when someone has pre-paid for their room.
I was just going to post the same.
Of course it is sensible to re-let if a room will definitely not be taken and is not paid for, as the hotel would make a loss, but if someone has paid for a room , surely not actually occupying the room is their prerogative ?0 -
Wow glad i read this , We are going to see family at beginning fFeb and was thinking of booking but the one we was going to book is 30 miles away - Think I will give a miss don't fancy turning up to no room with two kids. I think it's disgusting once you have paid that room should be yours whether you sleep in it or not.Pinecone £12 , Clixsense £4.96 , Swagbucks £9 , Quidco £32.39 , Instagc £6 , Feature points £4.27 , Slice the pie £6 , Gifthulk £9.40 , Nectar £33 , Top cashback £4.11 , App bounty £2 , One pulse £5.02 , Match n more £5 , Fanzbook £10 , Clubcard £3.50 , Money maker 75p

I've stayed at least a hundred times at Travelodges, alone and with family, often arriving after 9pm and have never been faced with my booked room already let.
I think I'd be quite happy if it happened providing I was transported and accommodated elsewhere. Given that Travelodge is arguably at the bottom of the budget hotel league it's likely to be a better room !
