It has never happened to me, but as I am aware that they do overbook to account for no shows I book in as early as I can, but if I know I will be arriving later at night, I ring up to confirm that I will be arriving and the spproximate time so they dont think I am a "no show" and resell my room.

yes, i do that too, so far, so good, i've never arrived to find my room has been let to someone else.

Serves anyone who books with Travelodge right for having anything to do with them!

They are the Ryanair of the travel industry.

Aren't Ryan Air the Ryan Air of the travel industry?

 I had no idea that this could happen

We have been staying with Travelodge for many years in lots of different cities around the UK and have never had any problems. We tend to arrive just at check in time and often have a family room so I would hope it never happens to us.

That will teach me not to read all the way through the T&C!

I'd say Ryan Air are in the Airline industry.

Getting the key early is good advice - or phone to confirm your arrival time. I've been bumped twice when I turned up (train late) at 2230. They paid for the replacement hotel and taxi to get me to it.

I think I'd have been sending someone along to check in and collect the 'keys' earlier in the day, or at least phone the actual hotel early in the day to book in.

I'd do this when we book for personal use and I'd certainly do it if booking 9 rooms and turning up very late.

Just seen this reply. Our experience was we were too busy working from 8am filming on a farm miles away, so no option for the Runner to check us all in and no time to phone them. Unless the production staff back at the office did it.

I don't think anyone on that team will use Travelodge again though!

    So what do airlines do?
I'm pretty sure that last time I went to the airport I didn't just board a plane for it to stand around while I read, ate & slept then disembarked at the same place again.
Yes, they transport you places so you can TRAVEL.

I had no idea this was possible, now I've read this I will avoid Travelodge like the plague I haven't used them much anyway as I haven't heard many good things about them. I'm of the opinion that if you have paid for your room it is your choice whether or not you sleep in it. I wouldn't expect my landlord to let my house out to someone else when we go on holiday as a family because we are still paying for the house. To me it seems that what Travelodge are doing amounts to the same thing.

There are some real horror stories of Travelodge reletting rooms. Even though they pick up the cost of alternative hotels, petrol and taxi rides, it's not something you need late at night.

People book hotel rooms more often than not for the location and for them to change this shows massive indifference to the customer and why they are far less successful than Premier Inn.

It happens with most hotel chains and airlines, just travelodge are particlarly aggressive with it so they do outbook more than most.
Yes, but most hotels don't ask you to pre-pay for the room.

I can fully understand overbooking where people pay little or no penalty for dropping out at the last minute (eg. cancellation up to 4pm on the day of arrival), but I think it is very, very wrong when someone has pre-paid for their room.
