Hope she got out ok, I got locked in my room a few months ago when the door catch broke.
You don't always have your mobile phone with you in the room wherever you are in the house, it's lucky she had the iPad there. I shudder to think what would happen if someone were to get stuck in the bathroom or somewhere where you wouldn't have a phone/computer! I've taken to not shutting the door now. I just leave it pulled to.0 -

They do, you just have to hope the person you are calling answers.
You can also download apps live Skype and use them to call emergency services.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I always think the bathroom would be the best place to get stuck - only place you can go to the loo & have a drink!
I once got locked in the conservatory but I just opened a window and climbed out. The hard part was climbing over the fence!0 -

Just for future reference.... is there a way to contact the emergency services by email?
I'd get a cheap phone and install it in the conservatory for her.0 -
Get granny to get the email address of her next door neighbours / local radio station / and suck like, so she can also email them, they may be able to get their quicker.

I am sure if you contact her local force they will have an e-mail system by can I ask why did you not phone them on her behalf? Might have saved the 30 mile trip!
Or are any of her neighbours contactable?
If you think it may become a regular problem then contact your local council who will put you in touch with a centre who can provide 'help' pulls around the house and for wearing around her neck. They can be a life line for many. They can reassure if need be, contact you or emergency services.0 -
Extra cordless phone sounds good or what about a spare key being cut & left in conserv (if that's what the problem is)
If it's any consolation I had to come home from work one day (70 mile round trip) as DH had locked himself in the porch. Couldn't leave him as it was 31st Dec & the year that -22 was the average winter temperature. We now have a spare key set in the porch for future "incidents"
And yes - I laughed when he told me, as did the team I work with and no - he will not be allowed to forget it

There are apps you can download that will allow texts to be sent from a tablet or ipad. Not sure how good they are and really it would only work if she had her ipad with her.
I must say what a clever lady though! I'm not sure under the same circumstances I would have thought of it.0
