Speed up Comping?

Hi

I want to try and speed up how I enter comps (especially as I'll have loads of advent comps to enter soon!! EEEK)

I already do quite a few things that are on the tips board, ie auto fill, saving a signature on emails .

I was just wondering what peoples top 5 things to do to speed up comping were?

Thanks for reading

Mine is the obvious one but if you've got a finite amount of time for entering comps and you can't enter them all then only enter
    1. The ones you would really want to win
    2. The formats that suit

And then let the ones that you don't/can't enter go. I had to have a word with myself. I can enter what I can enter and beyond that it's not worth the mental hassle you can give yourself with the ones you 'should' have entered.

Why do you comp? To win stuff you really want or for the thrill of winning? If it's for the thrill then enter ones that aren't big ticket items - the CDs, the tickets - but for me I'd rather spend the little time I have focused on the ones I actually want. Do I need a horse rug? Or a fishing shelter? Do I? No, I don't. If you're comping to sell that's another matter but being selective about what I enter was the biggest thing I did to make it all more manageable.

Oh, and sitting at a table with my laptop seems to make entering a lot quicker than sitting on the sofa covered in crazy pugs :p

    Good luck!

Roboform is not only useful for saving passwords, it can also be useful for saving addresses.

This is handy for websites which run regular daily competitions, such as Glamour, Easy Life, etc.

I fill in my address and details, plus tick which boxes need ticking, then save with Roboform. Have the settings to fill in the forms as soon as the page is reached. (Can't do this with my new Mac, but easy to do using PC).

This saves lots of time, as all you have to do is fill in the Captcha code.

    Good luck

Snaplinks an add on for firefox which lets you drag open many tabs

Split pannel means you can have the form on one side and the answers on the other

Tab counter So I can see at a glance how many tabs I have open and therefore know how many comps I am doing.

Thunderbird an amazing email client which drags all my diff emails onto my desktop, simple and very effective.

Roboform full version the best by miles for form filling.

By using the above and getting my head down, I easily manage 150/200 comps in 90mins.

ohh and using the Tab key simple but saves so much time!

With Advents I sort out many folders, which will approx have 100 comps in each and as I come across advents of interest I drop them in there, I last year ended up with near on 600/700 I was doing but it was manageable as the folders made it seem less. I done really well and touch wood will do this year too.

Bookmarking (Favorites in IE) works for me, most people do it for daily's and advents.
You can open a whole folder of bookmarks with a single click of the center scroll button, using Firefox, then just work through the line of open tabs.

Absolutely. Getting embroiled in arguments eats up comping time :D:rotfl:

I've just downloaded Split Pannel so thanks for the recommendation. :D Will also download Tab Counter. :)

It's my first year using a bookmarking system (I do it for the dailies mainly.)I hope you don't mind if I adopt your Advent system? I already have a folder for the Advents but I think tweaking it to your way would be of great help to me. :)

Same here - I use Tab key a lot.

I also find that using keyboard shortcuts speeds up my comping. Sure it only takes a millisecond to move the cursor to the next tab but those milliiesconds add up to valuable comping time ;)

the ones I frequently use are:
CTRL + PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN to move between tabs
    CTRL + W to close Tab/Window

When using RoboForm although sometimes plays up:
ALT + ] to fill form
ALT + Z to fill & submit form

Particularly with the ITV comps, I can get into a bit of a rhythm entering them using the shortcuts

All-in-One Gestures saves a lot of time navigating pages and more

Setting the curser to always move to the diolog boxes - this is great with those annoying security boxes that appear in the mag daily's.
