There are some great suggestions on here. My biggest time saver is already covered - opening several pages at once with folders of bookmarks.

My second biggest is using autohotkey. The obvious use is to set up your name/address etc for pages where roboform doesn't work. But as well as this it can be used to record macros to perform repetitive tasks. It looks a little daunting at first (and a tad geeky!), but it doesn't take long to get it set up and started.

I use it for all of the ITV comps so I've got a one macro to duplicate a tab 5 times (to give 6 entries per phone number). Then, once I've entered the A/B/C answer and tabbed to the title field, I have a macro to fill in the rest of the details and take me to the captcha box. (Most ITV comps are set out the same, so it works or you might need one extra tab). I've got this set up for the landline, one for my mobile and one for OH's mobile. I find that this works quicker than roboform on the ITV comps,

Snaplinks an add on for firefox which lets you drag open many tabs

Split pannel means you can have the form on one side and the answers on the other

Tab counter So I can see at a glance how many tabs I have open and therefore know how many comps I am doing.

Thunderbird an amazing email client which drags all my diff emails onto my desktop, simple and very effective.

Roboform full version the best by miles for form filling.

By using the above and getting my head down, I easily manage 150/200 comps in 90mins.

ohh and using the Tab key simple but saves so much time!

With Advents I sort out many folders, which will approx have 100 comps in each and as I come across advents of interest I drop them in there, I last year ended up with near on 600/700 I was doing but it was manageable as the folders made it seem less. I done really well and touch wood will do this year too.

Just wanted to say a big thanks to Toniq for the above, especially the split panel. I read this thread very quickly in my lunch hour last week and didn't have time to view it properly.

Just installed split panel and used on the TAB comps and it's brilliant.

    Thank you. :T

  • I was given a software bundle by a colleague who was joining the Airforce. It contained, amongst other things an application called PhraseExpress Pro.

This lets to have a small floating window listing all your details, so if a form doesn't fill correctly you just drag & drop the relevant details into the form - works great for me.

Great tips Toniq! I've just tried downloading snaplinks add on but it's not compatible with my firefox (new laptop, latest version of everything) Any tips on how I can it working please? X

Firefox 24 is outdated. When you update to Firefox 25 (or 26 which was out yesterday) you might have to manually install the beta version of snap links plus. There is an alternative called multilinks but I've never used it.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-links/

To manually install Snap Links Plus beta download and save:
    https://github.com/cpriest/SnapLinksPlus/raw/master/dist/snaplinksplus-2.3.4b10.xpi
Once its downloaded, drag the file into your firefox window and it will ask you if you want to install Snap Links Plus

I always stay one version behind with Firefox till they iron out all the bugs and non-compatibility issues.

I'm the same, roboform always seems to be a problem when ff updates :)

Only a minor tip compared to some of the labour-saving devices above :-) but for those occasions (I have them anyway) when Roboform doesn't fill everything in, most drop-down menus can be completed by tabbing onto them and typing, without having to open up the menu and select the appropriate value, particularly time saving if you're older than 18 and have to select year of birth :-) For example, I can tab onto a 'birth month' field and type 'F' to automatically set it to February, and tab onto year field and type 1967 without having to select and scroll.

Similarly, you can get close to 'United Kingdom nationality' by tabbing onto the field and typing 'U' and then use cursor keys to scroll down a few (and the drop-down menu automatically opens once you start scrolling with the keys).

I'd better edit to add that I use Safari browser, in case this feature is exclusive to it :-)
