Getting back into BF?

Options
Hiya,

My 15month old was hospitalized for 3 and half days and I had no choice but to put my 2month on forumla.

Although they left me a pump so I could keep my supply up I literally didn't have my hands free to get myself a drink most the time let alone sit their with a pump (which might I add was eletric and rubbish and took ages) so although I pumped when I got chance I guess it wasn't enough...

Im amazed really how fast its gone but I still am feeding my 2 month old then making him a bottle to top him up but without actally knowing I don't think he'd be getting more then 2ozs on a full feed from me after say 3-4 hours gone...

Has anyone else managed to rekindle their supply again? I came back friday and its now tuesday and it doesnt seem to be improving. :(

It is possible, but you need to drop the top ups and offer the breast often, lots of skin to skin. Good luck lovely x

Edit: it's impossible to say how much baby is getting from you with a breast feed, how much you can pump isn't an indication of your supply.

P.s hope your other littlie is feeling better x

Yea Im half going on how much formula he is taking after to how much he is getting lol but I know what your saying it is.

And yes he's recovered greatly once the doctors started taking him seriously and sorted some meds out for him!!

It's possible to get a baby back on the breast after weeks have passed, so I hope it's not too difficult for you. :o

Baby will work at getting your supply back up. x

I know its possible hun but haven't done it myself. Wishing you lots of luck.

See if you have NCT breastfeeding counselors in your area - they may be able to help/suggest things to try.

There is a national NCT breastfeeding helpline open 8am-midnight on 0300 030 0700 - they were helpful for me.

When I was trying to boost supply (not after a break but in general), I was told to drink lots of non-alcoholic beer (Bavaria's the nicest I tried) and to pump after every feed to stimulate more milk. I think it was 5 mins on each side twice ie 5 left, 5 right, 5 left, 5 right to stimulate supply rather than to get milk out (I got pitifully little but it's about telling your body to make more). I seem to remember that the nightime feeds do more to stimulate supply than daytime as well (not what you want to hear sorry).

Glad your older child is recovering well. Sounds like you've had a really tough time and you're doing amazingly to keep going with the breastfeeding :T
