Not tin but packet: I can recommend the Look What We Found chili and also anything from Ilumi their sister brand (chili, curry and casseroles). Not particularly MSE (& available from Mr W), but the online store has lots of good offers for multi-buys. Ilumi is also great for anyone with coeliac disease or allergies as it's gluten free.0

If you see one of these do not be tempted
Or this !0 -
For breakfast I like the porridge pots that just need hot water adding to the pot.
For a more substantial meal pasta with stir in sauce, doesn't take much longer than warming up a tin of pasta .
And inpersonally love spam.
Make sure you check that whatever you buy can be cooked on a stove though, we've had a few disappointments where after a long day at a festival we've gone to make the meal we were looking forward to and found it's microwave only.
And don't forget the tin opener!
Those porridge pots are incredibly expensive compared to buying porridge oats, which only need one saucepan and about 5 minutes to make anyway.0 -
Sainsburys tinned Chickpea Dahl and Bombay potatoes are good, I have a couple of those for when I'm short on time
Hope this helps0 -
Hi
Thanks for all your replies. Yes I just want to know whar tinned food people rate / don't rate. One ring stove, no fridge (not that its needed in this weather), no nearby shops. Just need some hot emergency meal ideas that can be thrown together in about 30 seconds.
Thanks for the replies
Get some tinned potatoes and some tinned corned beef + one small onion.
Drain potatoes and cover with boiling water (in the tin).
Fry chopped onion in oil or margerine until softish, drain potatoes and fry a bit. Add chunks of corned beef and fry a bit more. Eat.
You can add a bit of cheese if you want.
Or use instant mash potatoes (basic is bettter than those "chunks".
Another version is tinned beans (not kidney) and tuna done the same way.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Eggs are easy to transport in the box and cook in the time it takes to open a tin. And bacon will keep safe enough in the packet for a day.
I personally avoid those tinned meat things because they remind me of cat food - including the chicken in white sauce and the tinned steak.
Stagg vegetable chilli is nice, ratatouille is nice, a chickpea curry would be good, and soup/crusty bread is perfectly good enough for a meal (and you can serve it in a mug). In fact, I'd say, as a confirmed meat eater, your best bet is to stick with vegetarian tinned food.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I'm a bit of a tin snob I suppose. Soup, beans, tuna, tomatoes, and the odd tin of ravioli are my limit.
How long are you going for? Can you not make your own food to reheat?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
I prefer the chilli from Aldi (Hunters is the brand) to my own home made (though I do have to add a little salt).
Tesco brand chicken in White Sauce is nice too!
um Aldi meatballs in tomato sauce is edible but the Fray Bentoes one is frankly 'disgusting'.
a lot depends on personal taste - and sometimes the addition of a little salt or pepper or Worcester sauce can transform tinned foods.0 -
Marks & Spencers chicken in white sauce I always enjoy
A little off topic, but that product helps make a fab chicken and mushroom pasta. Just fry off a few mushrooms and chopped opns and garlic. add to the chicken in white sauce. Cook pasta, add together. It is divine! And so easy and quick. I always keep it indoors when on 3 for 2!
Sorry if gone off topic.0
