I wonder how much it cost

Edit The Ulster Unionist mayor of Larne, Maureen Morrow, also defended the decision to erect the structure which cost the ratepayers of the borough £13,000.

Wouldn't mind knowing that myself. It is really poorly executed. Looks like a cardboard cutout sprayed gold, something a 10 year old would make. To my eyes it is plain ugly. No panache. I like Larne's quiet conservatism, but when it comes to sculpture you need a more exuberant approach.

If we are going to do such things better to do them right or not at all.

It's certainly a good idea to put something on the roundabouts to let people know if they're going round in circles. :rotfl:

Funny though: the link in my inbox said I would be responding to a post by Emmett and there's nothing from him on the thread? Don't tell me he's been a naughty boy again and been reported? :p

We're really going to have to do something about that child. Take him out and fill him full of drink or something to cool his heels.

Thanks Cotta, £13,000 is generally not enough to do anything of any note on adequate scale for a site like that. It is therefore either pure tokenism and a waste of £13,000 or misguided.

When it come to such commissions how are they assessed before spending the money?

    Assessment for spending council money

    How much have we got?
    How much is left?
    What friends/relatives are involved?
    Spend it.....

I wouldn't mind the spend of £13,000 if the finished item was something the council area could be proud of and could be kept on permanently but this crown is an eyesore and let's face it: it isn't the most politically correct item to spend public money on either. It's almost as if they did it knowing they'd annoy some people in the community they were elected to serve.

I wonder what the result would be if they petitioned householders in the council area?
