sellers not posting to NI

 Since last week I have tried to buy 3 different items from different sellers.

These are small low value items that are to be posted 2nd class Royal Mail (therefore costs the same to post to Northern Ireland as anywhere else in UK).

Each time I have asked the seller if an error has been made and all 3 sellers have told me that they simply don't post to Northern Ireland!

Surely, Ebays default postage option for using Royal Mail should automatically include all of UK?

I guess our £££ are not good enough for some people :rotfl:

  • Sadly, I think a lot of people don't understand that Northern Ireland isn't a foreign country (including one of the counter assistants in my local PO, worryingly).

It might just be as simple as the seller sells a number of things that go via courier and has blocked all non mainland users, and has left the blocks in place for his RM auctions as well.

But when I have pointed out to them that they are happy to post the items to elsewhere in UK and has there been an error that states they won't post to NI - the answer on all 3 occasions has been - "no we don't post to NI even though we use Royal Mail!"

Do you have Northern Ireland as part of your address? I would just have the street, town and postcode and not draw attention to NI if it is causing problems.

Dozy sellers turning down business like this probably won't notice where you are if they just have the postcode.

I've sold various items to Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland and don't see what their problem is. As you say, it's all the one postage price for the whole of the United Kingdom. Southern Ireland is always more expensive and I feel sorry for them having to pay the extra but Royal Mail prices so nothing we can do. I hope you get some people who post to NI. :)

  • I live in Northern Ireland and have encountered this more than once. Some people seem to clump all of Ireland together. However, I also received a parcel last week that should have cost the sender £3 to post, and it cost them £4.99 and had a big airmail post office stamp on it, so if the post office staff are this clueless then I suppose normal Joe Bloggs people can be too...
    ;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)

All of these problems stem from including (Northern) Ireland as part of the address. Just use the town and postcode as you would for addresses in Wales or Scotland or England. The RM recommended format does not include country names.

Doesn't help as alot of the e-mail sellers know that Northern Ireland is all BT postcodes.

  • I probably post more items to both Northern Ireland and the Highlands & Islands of Scotland than I do to London addresses - maybe I'm mopping up business from daft sellers who don't realise that both Royal Mail and Hermes deliver there for no extra charge!
