I am not secretive of my distaste at royal mail, they have given us so much hassle every time we want to do something that involves them even in the smallest way.
I am due to recieve an item from the usa, it has left chicago and then the tracking ends.
so one of 3 things has happened:
1. item somehow never left the plane and could be anywhere in the world
2. held up at customs
3. royal mail have lost it
ok so seeing as it isnt here and the tracking has gone into a black hole too, you would think royal mail would at least try and help?
no of course not :rotfl:
they decided that they have no idea, am i sure it left chicago? yes, the clue is on the usps tracking site where it says 'processed through and left chicago' leaving chicago involves going on the plane.
after drawing rm's attention to this, yes this is with them having the tracking number, they decided they could no longer be bothered and fobbed me off to trace through usps. tracing through usps can only be done by americans.
i still messaged usps to see if they could help, and they drew me attention to the universal postage union regulations, basically, i am british, if something doesnt reach me, its royal mail's problem and if the international service needs to be contacted, its royal mail's responsibility.
anyone else had this head against brickwall experience from them?

How long ago did you order? How to you know it has left the US?
I bought OH an Xmas gift last year from Texas, I could track it so far in the US when it left the town it was sent from, tracked in Austen and again in Fort Worth (I think, it was a year ago). It was sent in the middle of October and didn't reach me until January.0 -
So its also USPS's problem. How on earth is RM is going to find it if the tracking stops once it left Chicago?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

If there is no tracking that proves the item has reached Royal Mail I can see why they're washing their hands of this.
Why can none Americans use usps but only Americans can contact them for tracking? Seems a bit shoddy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Have you thought about asking 'the american' for the tracking number?0 -

Are people being deliberately obtuse? As I read the OP, he ALREADY KNOWS the USPS tracking number, and FROM THAT he has deduced that the package arrived in Chicago to be loaded on to the plane to the UK. It is thereafter that there are no details.
Edit: Seems I was right.
OP - can the (US) sender do anything to chase it with USPS?0 -

my friend in the states has chased it up just now, we have worked out it is most likely a customs delay as customs have to clear it before the scanning can restart.
usps were apparently really obstructive with my friend and he then called the guy in the local post office who actually knew what he was talking aboutWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0
