Have beans on toast if you so wish. There are no rules.

That is a fantastic idea! Isn't it funny how we get blinkered into doing the same old thing each year, not stopping to think about what we actually want? Less waste, kinder to the bank balance, wish I'd thought if it first! :T

  • We are having a slow roasted belly pork joint for Christmas dinner. We have had it on Christmas day for the last 3 years, and every one enjoys it.

It is much cheaper than a turkey, which we don't like anyway.
  • In line with everyone else here BE YOURSELF so long as you like it you make it. No need to invoke tradition at all if it doesnt work. Well done for being individuals and unafraid.

We are having a buffet this year, I'm going to set it up at lunchtime and everyone can help themselves for the rest of the day! We are having a roast (Four bird roast and millions of pigs in blankets) on boxing day and cherry coke ham, egg and chips on the 27th. We always do a picnic tea on Christmas eve as dp used to take the children to visit people while I did the last minute jobs then they would eat as soon as they came home, drinks must always have cocktail umbrellas in on Christmas eve too lol!

I've usually done the 'full Turkey thing' when the family have all been around - especially when my kids were younger.

However, on occasions there's only been OH and myself and that's when we've done exactly what we want ......................

One year it was 'whoopsied Beef Wellingtons' bought the week before Christmas and frozen - and on another occasion, it was Haggis with tatties and neeps. My kids thought it was because we couldn't afford a 'proper Christmas Dinner' and couldn't get their heads around the fact that it was what we wanted to eat ................ :rotfl:

OP - you do exactly what suits YOU - after all, you're the cook ;).

If you really think about it, the amount of meat in a few 'pigs in blankets' is probably the equivalent of what you'd 'normally consume' on a balanced plate of food.
