Christmas dinner - Is this really odd?

Not strange.
I just put chicken breasts in a pan and roast those instead of a turkey or whatever - what actually makes it Christmas dinner for me is pulling crackers and wearing a silly hat!!''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
Not strange at all. I am on my own this year with my three. Oh is taking his mum to see relatives for Christmas. I am doing a traditional Christmas dinner for me and middle son but with Chicken instead of turkey, daughter is having a pork steak instead of chicken. Eldest son has requested a pizza express marguerita pizza so that is what he is having. It is Christmas day and we are going to eat what we want to eat not what tradition says is correct.
At New Year when I have to cook a dinner for DH and the two grannies we will be having roast pork and all the usual Christmas day trimmings. Eldest son will probably have his second pizza!0 -
No fans of turkey here either! Last year we had roast sirloin on the bone for dinner, not nearly as expensive as a turkey and more delicious, and still a treat because we'd never had it before! It's the stuffing and sausages and obligatory brussels sprouts that make the meal

We had a BBQ the year before last - ok we ate inside but that was only because it started to rain lightly although it was cold.
I actually love Turkey but only have it at christmas so really look forward to it and all of the sandwiches & curry etc that come after.0 -
We're going to be away in our motorhome for Christmas and no idea what we'll be having. I shall have a look in the supermarket near where we are staying a day or two beforehand and see what looks good at a reasonable price. Could well be something like a peppered duck breast with some roast potatoes and some veg, again what I can find at a reasonable price in the couple of days beforehand.

In 21 years of marriage, we have never had turkey in our house at Christmas (or for that matter any other time), because we don't like it, and think that it is overpriced anyway.
We much prefer a really good chicken or a roast rib of beef (only a small one as there are only two of us), and this year I may do a slow cooked leg of lamb (in a roasting tin with red wine and then covered with foil), or get two really good ribeye steaks.0 -
We stopped doing the turkey thing about 3 years ago as no one in the house actually really likes it but we love all the tradional trimmings - we usually have a steak pie with a nice chicken...... Our chicken is in the freezer at the moment...got him on a whoopsie at the big A for £1.79 yesterday, christmas is about family, chillaxing and coming together and having special time, people should do what they want with the ones they love and not bow to what the advertising and corporate bosses want us to believe christmas is all about so they can seperate us from our cash

Mr Lema and I were on our own for Christmas Dinner last year. We had plans to go to the seaside so I got up early and put a briskett in the slow cooker. We did go out but to family so had briskett, mash pots and veggies for our meal at around 7pm that evening. It was lovely and made a change from the roast turkey and ALL the trimmings.
This year we are doing chicken breast with some of the trimmings.Lucylema x :j0
