My old Alfa (I don't have it any more
) used to need oil, but it was very precise about it...
1500 miles after every oil change it needed 1l of oil. It wouldn't burn any (much) more for the next 12,000miles (can't remember the exact service interval), and then it would get a new filter & new oil. 1500 later, another litre went in.
In 4 years and 80,000 very enjoyable miles it used 6l of oil - on top of what went in at services.
The OP's car is 4 years old Nissan Qashqai thats driven 3,000 miles in 7 months, no idea if they have the same oil usage as an old Alfa or you didn't put in enough oil after the services??"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
When you buy one of these you are really buying a Renault and they behave like one as well.
The engine failure, is no surprise, thats what they do.
You need an engineers report before they get their hands on it with things like oil levels recorded and signed.
Then if it has failed, seek redeem via sale of goods and the county courtBe happy...;)0 -
If the problem is oil, it's not ACs problem. You might have a chance of getting something back from the local garage. Could be a badly fitted oil filter which has sprayed out oil over the last 3 months to the point that the engine is dry.
How much oil were you putting in when you were topping it up?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
The AA have checked the oil and reported ok, sounds like component failure to me rather than lack of oil.0

I know what you mean. I only got 193,000 miles on my last renault petrol engine. I knew I shouldn't have done the servicing myself.0 -

I don't think they made this one either. It is co-developed with Renault but I believe the engines are made in Japan by a third party. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Nissan make the petrol engines in the uk, Renault make the Diesel engines.0

I think the 1.6 at least is made in Japan by these guys. so says their webpage at least http://www.aichikikai.co.jp/en/products/engine/index.htmlWhat if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

When I got the car I was told to check oil every week. It was always fine so I ended up just topping up every 2 weeks, I only had to pit a touch in but I didnt record the amounts.
I should have just went for a new car and drove off with a 7yr warranty!
