That's all very well, but why would a girl be stupid enough to get her phone confiscated when she relied on it for such a dangerous walk???? If she had stuck to the school rules, she wouldn't have put herself in such danger.
Wow. This sounds perilously close to the "she was asking for it" excuse...One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

They're there to learn.
Outside of skool hours, then fair enough, and the same for travelling too
You've answered your own question. If they have their phone whilst they travel to and from school then the phone will therefore be with them during school hours. I suppose they can all hand them in during morning registration then pick them up at home time but a) what happens when they all start whining that their phone is actually that iphone 5s over there rather than the shitty motorola that they actually turned up with and b) how much time is it going to take to remove, log, keep safe and hand back at the end of the day 1600 mobile phones?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
To be fair to pinkshoes, she says that phones have to be in their bags. But I still await the answer as to whether the school will keep them should a parent not comeOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

this had made me read my boys school policy on mobiles....not sure I am happy that the teacher can and will take the mobile, but wont take responsibility if it gets lost or stolen!!!
Mobile Devices to include mobile phones and MP3s.
We have had issues surrounding the use of this type of equipment in school. It is starting to have an impact on pupil progress. As a result of this we will be adopting the following stance regarding mobile devices.
• Mobile devices will be allowed in school. Pupils may use them at break
time or lunch time.
• We will expect them to be out of sight during lessons. They need to be
turned off or on silent. They must not be attended to unless directed to do so by a member of staff. This will be for educational reasons, or to enhance the lesson.
• If a mobile device affects Teaching and Learning in any way, they will be
confiscated by the member of staff. It will then be passed on to their Year Coordinator, or to a member of the Leadership Group. The device will be returned to the pupil after school on the Friday of the same week.
Repeated confiscation will result in the mobile device being kept until a parent/guardian comes into school to collect it.
As a school we are welcoming of new technology. We understand the value of such innovations in assisting in the process of teaching and learning as they raise achievement amongst our pupils, and add to the value of the educational experience. We will aspire to use these as often as possible, to enable our pupils to prepare for their future in an ever changing world.
Under no circumstances will any member of staff accept responsibility or become liable for any student’s mobile device, or indeed any other valuable item that is brought onto school property. Unless in the case of Physical Education, providing that the student hands over any such items for safe storage whilst undertaking their practical lesson/activity.

I expect the reason it was not at the reception to be collected is that the Teacher was teaching and had not had time to drop it off. Or do you think they should have left the class so as not to inconvenience the parents?0

To answer the earlier question, we received a multi-page "parents handbook" a few weeks ago, and this rule change was what I would call "hidden" in the middle. Personally the use of mobiles is prevalent in today's society and I would have thought such a change should be made more clear, but that's by the by. I have no problems at all with phones not being allowed. What I disagree with is parents having to collect them. Some of these students are 18 and are legally adults!
A pupil knows the rules, so if they are aware their parents can't come in to collect, then they shouldn't get caught using it!
Pupils should have been made aware of the new rule, even if it was hidden in the handbook.
Rules are rules. You can always select a school that does allow mobile phones...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Rules are not rules if they are unlawful. So you are saying it's acceptable for a school to retain a child's personal property indefinitely? One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

Just read this again. You are an awful awful teacher. You seriously think that it's her fault to have an awful out of school experience because of something that happened in school? What the hell do they teach at your school? "Why would a girl be stupid enough"???? Try looking at their education and those who provide it.
Your post absolutely sickens me.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
