Virgin - New Contract - Can they do this?

Hello
I was in the process of cancelling Virgin to go to BT. Served notice and placed my order with BT. A few days later I was called with a deal which made it sense for me to stay with Virgin after all.
Now, 4 weeks into the new 12 month contract, I have received an email telling me my price is going up by £5.50 per month. Surely they can't do this????
Any advice appreciated.

Yes they can, because it's not a fixed price contract. All VM prices are rising by 6.7% from Feb '14, if this is what you are referring to. Check the T&C''s. Unless of course you were told 'the price is fixed at £x for x months'.
Normally you are offered a discount against a certain rate, i.e. £10pm off. If the rack rate then goes up, so does your price too. Which is why you need to know what you are agreeing to when you contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop

They can certainly increase prices, but this releases you from the minimum period of contract and you now are entitled to cancel without penalty.Terrysdelight wrote: »Now, 4 weeks into the new 12 month contract, I have received an email telling me my price is going up by £5.50 per month. They can.
But!
Phone them up and tell them you would like to exercise your right to cancel all services as they are raising the prices.
A little bit of a challenge to them should result in a credit to your account for the raise, usually enough to cover 12 months. It may recommit you to a further 12 month contract though.0 -
You don't say if BT promised not to put up your tariff for the duration if you joined them, did they? It's swings and roundabouts!0
