    Did it really take you just two minutes to check the links and understand what it was about?rolleyes.gif

    It's a UK network that is cheap to use for roaming in Australia for a while until you get a new Australian sim after moving instead of before.

    If he's moving to Australia, he needs an Australian mobile number, not a UK mobile number. None of the locals will want to phone him on a UK mobile number.

    The one to consider most closely is http://www.amaysim.com.au

    I was over in Australia for a month back in May and I used Telstra
    http://www.telstra.com.au/

    Another of the few big players over there are ;

    Optus ; https://www.optus.com.au
    Vodafone ; https://www.vodafone.com.au

    There are also your typical MVNO too.... Virgin Mobile springs to mind :)

    I was staying with a friend so he had the sim card waiting for me ; but they're easily picked up at the Airport and the Mobile network stores across the high streets over there, just like over here :)
    Currently in a Trust Deed 30 payments until DEBT FREE - February 2027

    I'm informed by a friend living in Sydney that Vodafone is well known for having the worst coverage of the Australian networks - the opposite of the UK. Many of the cheapest MVNOs operate on Vodafone ; you get what you pay for.

    Is it really worth jumping through hoops to get Australinan sim in UK instead of calmly doing this after moving to Australia?

    I was under impression that the OP really wanted the former: "so there ready to rock n roll when i get there"

    As a side note, it's "they are" or "they're" , not "there".

    Yes, I try to do this whenever possible when I visit a country for the first time. I prefer to have a working SIM as soon as the plane lands rather than waiting until I can get to mobile phone shops which are rarely located in airports. Soon after landing is when I most need maps to communicate with others and I'm not happy to pay £8,000/GB to Orange for the privilege. I then keep my SIMs active for subsequent visits with a small periodic balance deduction.

    That's why I suggested '3' with £10/Gb PAYG.
