I wonder if goldlady's method of earning money through charity work involves sending a large sum of money to the "charity" via western union in order to join the programme?

Interesting that she's managed to post while PPRed.

How about looking for another voluntary admin role where you could gain an NVQ in business administration?

I started volunteering a few years back with no office experience whatsoever. 18 months later I had NVQ levels 2 and 3 in business admin.

just a ...'perhaps anything else I could be doing?' ...suggestion ;)

Working for free and claiming benefits only really benefits the employer. Better to look for an entry level role where training is provided.

As others have said, either take a literacy course, or aim for jobs that do not require much of a grasp on the English language.

It does matter, as if I receive a badly constructed letter from any organisation, I complain - if they cannot be bothered to send out coherent letters, I cannot be bothered to read them.

It has nothing to do with how you speak, as I have a broad Cockney accent, and have never knowingly picked up an aitch.......but that doesn't stop me being able to write more formally.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

No, it can benefit the employee / claimant, too. Some people simply struggle with turning up on time, taking instruction, following a task through, etc. For these, this is going to exclude them from the mainstream job market, so a halfway house to teach the basic skills can come in useful.

    Hi gay_guy

To echo what shop-to-drop says, I can’t see any reason why you can’t apply for admin jobs as well as a range of other work, if you want to. If you don’t have much admin experience then you may find that it can be challenging to get to interview, but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that someone may take you on in an admin assistant capacity if you can demonstrate some level of transferable skills and computer literacy.

How are your IT skills, and what kind of work have you done previously? It’s great that you gained some experience with United Press. This may be something that you can list on your CV to demonstrate a degree of admin experience, but if your previous roles have had any element of admin at all, you may be able to emphasise these aspects of prior roles and hopefully improve your chances of getting to interview for an admin post.

If admin is ultimately where you want to be in the long term (and you don’t actually say that it is), you may be able to work towards this career area in your leisure time, while working in a different role (should you have to take a role as a packer, shops assistant or the like), so don’t lose hope if your next paid role isn’t exactly what you’d like it to be. Where there’s a will, there’s usually a way!

    Best of luck.
