Hello,
Without success I have been trying to get my Gas account sorted out since September this year.
After several Customer Hell phone calls and a letter of complaint sent - not replied to as yet - i am due a large refund.
Contract ends 31.12.2013.
I have cancelled this months DD and next month.
I am just not getting no response. Each phone call advisor - will and i quote "sort it/deal with it/no problems
I've not been with them a year and cant wait to leave them. Viva La Divorce!
However, how the hell can i get MY money back!!:(

Welcome to the forum.
It is not a good idea to cancel your DD as you will lose any DD discount and, depending of the terms of your tariff, they might be entitled to place you on the most expensive standard tariff for the whole of the time you have been with them.
As you presumably have let them know you are leaving them, they might not bend over backwards to help.
How have you calculated that a £600 refund is due to yourself? Is that on a bill or by checking your account on-line?0 -
As above, £600 in credit does not mean that they owe you £600-it depends on the timing of your previous bill and the amount you will owe on your final bill.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Yep it's defiantly a credit due. Wrong read taken in June. Finally got through to a person "Janet" in complaints Team today - who acknowledged that it wasn't generating proper statements - the account had frozen itself. They were informed in Writing to take off Novembers DD the Credit owed and they do not know that she plans to leave Scottish Power - they have had letters/emails and digital photos of the Gas Meter in question.
They have failed to act on all emails / phone calls/ letters up until today. Janet @ SP has advised she can see the problem and can get it resolved and offered to call back in a few days when all proper statements have been cancelled and re-issued.
So a result today - but it's been like pulling Hen's Teeth with them so far! it shouldn't take my Mum and I to sort out one small domestic account!!
SP really need to get there act together - we have been cheered up immensely by their own FB and customers comments also!0 -
2 months ago I moved from Scottish Power to npower as my contract was up so moved to a better tariff. I sent noower my meter readings as asked and things with npiwer are fine but I'm yet to receive a final bill from Scottish Power and I'm over £200 in credit. I assumed npower would have sent on my meter readings as for them its my first and for Scottish its my last.0

I think you need to contact Scottish Power and find out if they have received the meter readings from npower. Can you still log into your account? Mine was frozen on switch day (5Nov), and I received final bills last week, separately for gas and electricity. Balance refund cheques received today. I switched to M&S energy (aka SSE).0 -

I can login in but next to my account it now says closed. Tried calling npower today but 45 main wait. Will call Scottish Power Monday to make sure they received the readings. Thanks.0 -

I am in exactly the same position as the post you quoted- moved from SP to NP the electricity started with NP on 04/11 and the gas on 6/11. I am well in credit and have received NO final statement yet, unlike you. Did they auto-refund you via cheque or did you have to badger them into it? Like the quotee I can't login to SP since I changed.UK Consumers: The Gift That Keeps On Giving......0 -
No badgering, I think SP issued the final statements as soon as they got the meter readings. The letters said the refund cheques would be issued within the following couple of weeks but in fact arrived in 10 and 7 days respectively, both together but in separate envelopes.
I didn't contact Scottish Power at all, no complaints about them except I would have preferred refund into my bank account like Eon did the previous year.0 -
prob not on topic but we went with scottish powers years ago and they couldnt set up a direct debit,,over a year and we lost money because we didnt put the money aside because each month they were going to sort it,wish the internet was like it is now cos we could have looked them up0

Left SP on 7th November and still no final bills. Managed to log onto the online system which says that no statements can be generated from 1st November until at least early December.
This is in breach of the requirements by ENERGYUK, the trade board of which SP are members. The Code of Practice for Accurate Bills states at item 3.8
"If you provide a valid read it will be used to produce a revised bill/statement, if appropriate. This will be sent out within 10
working days."
from http://www.energy-uk.org.uk/publication/finish/43-code-of-practice-for-accurate-bills/411-the-code-of-practice-for-accurate-bills.html
So SP cannot even follow the rules that they wrote.
