Switching from TalkTalk Query

I'm thinking of switching to TalkTalk, however before I do I want to be sure of all the facts.

I seem to recall reading many years ago, that the only route off TalkTalk's network to other copper line providers, was via BT directly.

Is this still the case, or is it possible to go straight to the likes of Sky or Plusnet?

I ask, because the BT route seems very expensive, and in the long term any savings made by being on TalkTalk, may be evaporated by being forced to sign up to BT after 12 months.

Finally, is there any real prospect of losing my existing phone number in this transition back from TalkTalk?

Nobody knows what you will or won't get from Talk Talk.

You'll have to go ahead and sign up if you want to find out. Do you want to take the risk?

You can go direct from TT to Plusnet, since Plusnet is not an LLU service and runs on BT. TT to Sky (if LLU), may not be possible.
    It's not a number issue, it's a line issue.

Thanks. Sky would be LLU at my local exchange.

Appreciate that it is a line issue, I was under the impression that coming off TalkTalk was effectively like a new line install with a new provider, where potentially any number could be re-issued.

I take it this is not the case then?

For as long as I can remember, I have never heard a positive thing about TalkTalk, however my parents are with them and have never had any issues. This makes me think I should give them a try.

I just don't want to switch if there is no easy path back (avoiding BT).
