Probably best. I'm still waiting for the call as they are supposed to be here at 10. Their tactics are just too shrewd for me and makes me think what will they duck and dive with on the installation.
Totally agree with death valley as well, awesome place.0 -
Update, just so this shows up in people's searches.Safestyle uk are rubbish.
They originally quoted me £5,500 for 2 doors then discounted. This is lie as 2 doors cannot possibly cost that much.
First appointment, 2 hours late so i had to rearrange. 2nd time they come. Third appointment today I'm told to cancel I must wait for the guy to ring who is coming round. So far over an hour late no call, no visit, nothing.
Avoid avoid avoid, customer care is non existent, their sales tactics are really dodgy and low and they lie.
If that guy turns up any time soon I will tell him exactly what I think of Safestyle!0 -

One of the main reasons we cancelled. We need lintels for the 2 windows. Salesperson was saying, that if the surveyor says we need them, call Safestyle and tell them that we will not pay any more. That really isn't good enough, all if's buts and maybes. Add to that, the surveyor could not come till Friday. The day we would have to cancel!Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
You're better off with a local company. I have called a local company, ensuring plenty of good reviews on check a trade. Guy seemed nice, not pushy and he will drop in a catalogue (safestyle don't leave you anything at all to look at your choice) while he measures up and insists if he is there longer than 15 mins he will throw himself out.
I feel much happier just not using safestyle. You know the one, you buy one you get f*** all free!!!0 -

Repeat of my post in October:
I watched them fitting next door's windows and doors - cutting the sills to length with one foot on a dustbin, rain deflectors at the top fitted with double sided tape, colossal amount of sealant to fill the oversized gaps. Laugh, it was hilarious. Didn't like the neighbour anyway.
If you have Safestyle to do the job, you deserve to have your head read.
Don't the style of adverts tell you enough? And what's with that massive feathered coat - what does that represent?0 -
We just had a quote from a local company (2 men working for themselves) off a builder website with references/reviews on the tradesmen listed. The 2 men we picked have excellent references and reviews and after meeting them I can confirm that they are nice blokes and seem to know what they are talking about. I wanted a quite expensive bevelled glass patterned composite door with side panel to match (frosted) on the front and a back UPVC door in white (similar cut out glass pattern, but frosted) both of the old hardwood doors need removing. In addition we are having a small side window taking out and replacing, again with a white UPVC window . The composite door is 70mm and the profile is called "Eclipse" and it is police backed and a 10yr guarantee, 3 yrs on the locks and 5 yrs on the glass. Price £2,250. They are also removing another window in my kitchen altogether and bricking it up and plastering, replacing the internal insulation in the wall and matching the outside lower block patterning on the wall to match. Price £750. I did get another quote from a company my sister used and she was very pleased with but they were £150 more expensive (on the price of the doors and window, we didn't ask them to quote to remove the other window to be bricked up). As this larger company told me, with their overheads they couldn't compete on the price, plus the one I selected has quoted me for a nicer front front with expensive bevelled glass which pushes up the price.
This is the sticking point, big companies have overheads, you are paying for their premises, salesmen, administrators etc. Two man band working for themselves, they can afford to undercut larger companies.
I will come back and let you know what the workmanship is like when they have finished.0 -
JWhite big companies do have overheads but they also have economies of scale so should still be able to compete. They chose to price higher as they know many people will use an apparent reputable company such as SS, Anglian etc rather than taking a risk with a smaller, unknown company or sole trader. Therefore increased profit margins.
I agree though their crazy technique of annoying adverts, constant phone calls and insisting on meetings will cost a fair bit that will be built into the price.
To update this post I'm still being called constantly by SS despite telling them to bog off. Waiting on a new quote from locals which looks like it will be significantly cheaper.0
