You have to pay the £200 that you agreed to. But it would be perfectly reasonable to ask for a copy of the receipt from the Main dealer particularly as they are giving a 12 month warranty on the part.
I would guess that the dealer will not give you your car back till you pay the £200. equally you should refuse to pay the £200 without the copy of the bill0 -
But they were told what the problem was a week ago and it taken them a week to come up with a solution. I have had nothing but trouble since day 1! If anything they should be honuring the repair, taking into account the problem arised less than 24hour after i drove it away. The car has obviously been sold in this condition making the vehicle not fit for purpose. Who knows if they did fit a used part it would break again the day after? You dont take you car to a garage for a new exhaust, tyres and brakes and have all used parts fitted do you?
I'm not saying I have the strongest of knowledge on cars and car repairs but I would expect a new part to be fitted at thier cost as the free but totally useless warranty they gave me doesnt cover the repair!
But they are repairing the car! It's you that is insisting on the betterment, and they are charging you for it.
Your argument about taking the car to a garage for new parts and not expecting used ... well of course, but they will also be charging more for a new part than one from a breakers so exactly the same scenario0 -
In short, car broke down day after purchase and buyer should have taken it back, handed over the keys and waited for phone call to say it was fixed. Instead got involved with myriad of options of repair, agreed one route and now wants to renege on verbal deal.
Pay the £200 and move on.0 -
Sounds like the speed sensor, £41 from most parts centres, takes longer to get the wheel off than fit.
Had a Auto Landrover discovery and it throws limp when the sensor plays up as it is magnetic.
Yes Landrover do charge amounts like that, for the "genuine" part, which they dont make, they buy from the same place as the £41 one.
Changed mine my self , two torx screws and 15 minutes of time including putting the wheel back on.
Sorted the issue immediately.Be happy...;)0 -

You made a verbal agreement to part-pay for the repair of your car, using a second-hand part. The first question that trading Standards will ask you, is regarding that verbal agreement. You can lie and say that you did not give your consent to using a second-hand part, which will be your word against that of the garage. If this then becomes a legal matter, you may find yourself with even more expense. One of the questions asked of you, is how you became aware that a second-hand part was used.
Keep to the agreement you made, that is the honest thing to do. Whether or not there are cheaper alternatives, however much the part costs new or used, is all irrelevant. You gave your consent to the repair, as the garage offered it to you.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

No. They would use a used part and repair for free or use a new part and i have to pay £200 towards the £630 bill. I refused the used part as this 'could' go faulty again in a week or month etc and asked for the new part fitting which is less likely to go faulty and also comes with a 12 month land rover warranty. Yes i said if i can get the funds i will pay it. But to be honest i dont have £200 to pay the bill. Considering the circumstances i believe the garage should pay in full if it be used or new.0

Not quite sure if there is confusion here. They were willing to repair it for free with a used part, but what is actually happening is that a new part is being used for which they want £200.0
