If this will be your third payment why have you waited so long????

Hand in your P45 if it's bothering you so much as I'm sure if you were so bothered in the first place you would've filled in a P46.

The OP had not been concerned before because she has been paid without deduction of tax (presumably total paid has been agreed hourly rate for number of hours worked less any deduction for NI). She is now concerned that the overtime (as in thread title) will make a difference.

She wouldn't have completed a P46 if Sainsbury's don't ask for something which HMRC no longer want completed.

The OP doesn't know if she's been paying tax as she's never see a wage slip.
As for the tax, I'm sure you pay it on what you earn and not on hours you do.

Yes the tax is worked out based on what you get paid.

She probably hasn't paid any tax because at the hourly rate she is likely to be getting 16 hours work is below the standard personal allowance (anything up to about £11 per hour is an annual wage below £9440). However, she is right to be concerned that doing additional hours may take her above the allowance for that pay period (although it's probably unlikely if she only started earning in September) and the way to resolve that concern is firstly to get payslips and then, if necessary, hand in the P45.

Yes a good point, forgot about that.

If they have a P46, you must have completed it - or they forged your signature.

Who was the "she" who gave it back to you? Your immediate supervisor, someone in HR or the store manager? It matters not that they have a P46 if you have a P45. They should take the P45 and use that. It is important because it will mean you can move off the 944 Wk 1 basis and get your cumulative personal allowance. This will mean you will still not be paying tax which a Wk 1 basis could entail. I would hope that someone working in Payroll/HR ought to understand that.
  • sorry someone in hr gave it to me i must filled it out without knowing i did at time but i handed her the p45 andshe told me i think you have p46 so she goes in file and gives me bck p45 i dont pay tax at moment asonly earn 16 hours usually as that is whats in my contract but this week i have done 25 hrs
