Do you have the P45 ? If so hand it to HR

You wot get in trouble with hmrc, you might pay different rate of tax due to the emergency code and it should sort it self out come end of the tax year.

Worked there for 4 months and not seen a payslip, I take it you have been payed them 4 months ? We get ours from our manager/Team Leaders so speak to 1 of your colleagues on the counter who they get the payslips from.

re the 45 no its not normal, they wanted everyones p45's on induction (if we had them obviously)
  • i did have my p45 on induction and i still do they told me they dont need it i do the overtime tomorrow so bit panicking i have my p45 in front me now

Im at a loss why you were told that about the P45, no dont worry about the whole overtime thing. If it were me Id go into HR with the P45 and politely ask who it needs to be given to.

I am hoping i can get some help, i work 16 hours a week at sainsbury and they told me i do not need give them a p45 (they could cope without a P45 but you would need to give them information about whether you have had another job this tax year but if you have a P45 issued on or since 6 April 2013 then give it to them, keeping the sheet which is meant to be retained by the employee) i am confused on why, also i was offered overtime on a different part of the store which i have accepted also where they can train me, i do not want back down on this as will give me experience in other areas which will be the bakery as i currently work on deli i don't want be in trouble with emergency tax (emergency tax is where you are effectively given a normal tax-free allowance each week or month) i just don't no what i do, and since i have worked there for 4 months i have never seen a pay slip (Sainsbury's have a legal duty to provide payslips at or before the time that you are paid so definitely ask them for your payslips or means of accessing them if they are provided online - I don't know whether Sainsbury's provide hard copy payslips or just make them available on line) any advice on this please and is this normal for sainsbury not wanting p45

Get the payslip and see what they are using as your tax code. It may be 944 on a M1 basis.

As JSA is a taxable benefit (but not taxed at source), you need to provide Sainsbury's with the Jobcentre P45 so that they can include the JSA in the year to date figures and apply tax (and tax-free allowance) on a cumulative basis.
  • ok ill try get one tomorrow on p45 from job centre is 944... if it is 944 or m1 basis will doing overtime be affected
  • I be proper confused.

    you've worked there 4 months - July.
you had your payslip on your induction - no doubt in July as well
You got your P45 in September

So you either got your P45 two months into working there or you had it when you had your induction / when you started. If you didn't have it when you started because you didn't get it till two months later, you probably filled in a P46 instead which could be why they said they don't need it

Do you have a pigeon hole or anything at work where they could put your payslip? i'm guessing it won't be easy to dish them out personally.. Ask other staff as well how they get theirs, yours could be sitting in a pigeon hole that you don't know about.
  • sorry my mistake its 3rd september i started working there that was my induction its 3 mths and no have no pigeon holes only my locker which i only have key for i have do lot asking tomorrow

You haven't worked there three months yet though you may have had 3 payments (because of the 4-week period and maybe starting part-way through a 4-week period). That does not of course affect the fact that you should get payslips when you are paid!

Without the P45 you might have completed a P46 (or Sainsbury's may have caught up with the fact that these aren't needed any more) and you should have confirmed that you had been in receipt of JSA though had no other job.
