You think that you have a problem?

Most general agents or brokers haven't a clue about using the chassis number rather than the reg number.

When I worked in a Saudi Arabian university and drove home for the 3 month Summer holidays I had to have the chassis number on the insurance because the Saudis took the number plates away as you left their country! The Saudis didn't believe in insurance - "How dare you pre-empt the will of Allah?" They didn't like fire extinguishers or seat belts either.

I had to arrange cover with a UK Insurance company for a car that wasn't in the UK - yet.

I had lots of problems with that but you should be OK doing this in the UK for a few weeks until the DVLA sort themselves out.

    Find a new insurance company.

You can insure a car with just a chassis number.

As i have done that several times when driving Jap Imports back from Southampton.

For the life of me i can't remember who i was with at the time, might have been Admiral.

The dealer will already have a list of registration numbers to use which are already to go.

Whenever i have bought brand new cars, scooters or motorbikes i have always been given a choice of 10/20 numbers to choose from. That is going back to '94 when i bought a new GPz500S from Motorcycle City.

One caveat, it may be better if you got your quote via a call centre rather than online.

    For pitys sake.

Just noticed a brand new member has brought a thread back from the dead rather than start their own thread.

    What a waste of time.

Hopefully the real OP got his or her issue sorted out.
