brand new car cant insure due to dvla not updated new registration

Hi
as anyone had the problem of trying to insure a brand spanking new car, registered at dealers this morning, yet i cant insure it without a registration which is recognised(dvla not up to speed).
place make model etc but a request of registration is required for docs.
has anyone had thios problem and manage to sort out.
trying to go through a cashback site which if icant doit online going to cost me £80 and decsent qutoe also.

Sounds to me more like it's an issue either with your dealer or the cashback site. My last 3 cars have been brand new, and in each case the dealer has told me the registration number that it would have and I was able to insure it straight away.

I was under the impression that dealers have an online link to DVLA and the registration is updated immediately. Perhaps they just hadn't done it when you thought they had. Or perhaps the cashback site doesn't have the necessary means to access the DVLA data in real time. Have you tried an insurer directly to see if they can find your registration?

I had my registration number when i put the deposit on the car.

I insured it before it had been registered so the dealer could tax it. No issues.

My wife bought a new car in September. The dealer/ manufacturer provided 7 days free insurance. I thought they all did nowadays. Her own insurer asked about it and delayed the start of her new cover for a week, as they said they wouldn't double insure.

I like cashback sites but they often insist that to qualify for cashback all contact with the company has to be made online. That has its limitations, sometimes you have to speak to a person.

He has bought a new car and has been given a registration number. He has tried to insure it through a cashback site, where the transaction must be done entirely online. The insurer he has chosen wont insure it because their quote system cant identify the car exists from the registration number, possibly because DVLA have not added the car to their database yet.

He needs to explain his situation to the insurer in person, so they know it is a new car but he doesn't want to as he doesn't want to lose the cashback.

Same here, I took delivery of a brand new car two weeks ago, I received the registration number a week before the vehicle was actually registered with the DVLA.


Phoned my insurance company up and arranged change over from old car to new on delivery day which was the day the dealer actually registered it.

I am having the same problem, because of finance issues my sister has bought the car for me, the dealership is insisting she is a named driver on the insurance, they tried to insure it on their 7 day policy but because it is my sister, not my wife they would not accept it, so the dealer advised me to insure the car myself and send them my insurance docs so they could register the car. I called my insurance company, they say they cannot insure without registration, I know the reg number it will be registered as but no can do. does any one know of an insurance company that will insure an unregistered car so that they can register it?

Most branded manufacturer insurance arms will be able to insure a car based upon the chassis number - ie Ford Insurance, Vauxhall Insurance, BMW Insurance, Volvo Insurance etc.

Branded schemes are often underwritten by the same Insurer as general insurers but the difference is the agent working on the general side won't have a clue about insuring a car on a chassis number.
