No your wrong cos she's insured, it's her car, but he could have done her for permitting me to use it but you could argue she'd had a drink and her decision making not 100%

No, I'm not wrong and if you knew what you are talking about you'd know why.

I'm missing something here with regard to worstluckever being stopped for no insurance. And I apologise profusely in advance if it is blindingly obvious.

If the car was insured, which nobody has disputed, how on earth did the policeman know he was uninsured to drive that car?

Have they developed some new form of telepathy radar system to read the driver's mind?

A quick check on the insurance database.

...would show the car to be insured, whilst saying nothing about the identity of the driver at that moment in time.

The other slight eyebrow-raiser is why Mrs OP wouldn't have Mr OP as a named driver on her policy, and vice-versa.

    Would list the named drivers.

Ok. But, how would police know you were not insured and pull you over? You could have DOC and be perfectly legal.

I wonder if worsteverluck has history with the local police.

Indeed, if you watch the traffic policy fly on the wall tv programs they frequently check the database whilst driving and if it shows a female's name as an only driver (or males) they will pull the car if the driver is male (or female).

Traffic police are not stupid and the technology at their disposal weights the dice heavily in their favour

Yes 'all' points and fine. As I said I'm not happy with insured car taken aways.

Not as happy as I am.

Hopefully they've got your number now, and will be keeping an eye on the both of you.

But they wouldn't know you had DOC cover without pulling you. It seems a good reason for a stop. IME* they can ask you the reg of your own car and check on the insurers database to find out if you are covered to drive the vehicle you are in.

If they had seen the car parked in a Pub car park all evening it might have given them a reason for a stop and a check on the PNC would then be done. It only takes a few seconds.

*i.e. one stop driving my sisters car after she sprained her ankle. The only drivers on her policy were her and Mum so it was pretty obvious to even the most observant plod that I wasn't Mrs Anybody :)
