My daughter is covered in scars and the old ones are barely noticeable. Young children really do heal very fast.

Weird fact for today - if surgery is performed on a foetus before it's born it doesn't leave a scar.

My Granddaughter had open heart surgery just one week before her first birthday. She is 22 now and wears her scar with pride. She wears low cut tops etc, the same as any other 22 year old! xx

My daughter is the same with her birthmark and scar from it. She says it's part of who she is.

I am sorry to hear what has happened to your little one. They are always getting in to scrapes! At least mine were (and still are!).

My son has just had stitches in his face and we were advised to use any E45 type cream to minimise scarring once the stitches had been removed. He is a teen however and knows better so I don't know if he is actually using it despite me asking him!

One of my girls scalded her chest at age 9, a huge mark that we were told would leave an interesting scar to show in years to come but to minimise it to again use E45 type cream. We used it religiously for along time and now at 12 she has no scar at all.

Our daughter tripped up the step into our house when she was two and ended up with a huge bruise on her forehead and a large cut, she couldn't have it stitched until her swelling had settled, she then spent the next two weeks playing with them and picking at the scabs.

She is four now, you can only really see her scar when she is very hot as it doesn't go red, and it will likely be noticeable if she has a sun tan.

Its just a little scar she'll be fine.

My daughter has a scar on her face, she badly scratched it the day she was born, she scratched about an inch, it has grown with her face and is about 3 inches now. As other people have said, if it remains it is part of them. We only really notice it if she is hot or cold so it stands out more, I think we are just used to it. If other people notice they usually say they thought it was a crease where she had been leaning on it.

My niece has a birth mark on her face, she's only 4 and has had 2 surgeries with more to come but the surgeon has told us the scarring will be minimal due to her age. This is despite her being a very pale red head.

just to let you know, in case you wanted to look at products to minimise scarring - try Bio-oil - or try Aldis own one Lacura Beauty Care Oil £3.99, apart from the colour I can't tell the difference. Its a lovely oil, and designed to minimise scars, and also if your skin feels dry or tight etc.

You sound like such a caring mum.

awww - I can really understand how upset you feel. when my sixteen yr old grandson was about that age he ran into the corner of a wall in my house when I was babysitting. he had a huge gash on his forehead. he didn't have stitches - they glued it and the nurse said it wouldn't scar! it did, he still has it. we wish we had used something like Bio-oil on it. when his sister was little she tore a large flap of skin off the back of her heel and had to have stitches - daughter used the bio-oil and you cant see the scar! I think its wonderful stuff!
some skins heal better than others, but giving it a little help wont hurt once its healed! I do hope it heals without trace!
  • My daughter (6) fell at school when she was 4, she had a 2" cut on her chin. Now, there is barely a scar there at all. I know it's heartbreaking, I remember how upset I was when DD got chicken pox and had scars on her forehead for that, but I doubt your DD will be left with a terrible scar and it will become so "normal" to you, you won't even notice it shortly. Massie hugs to you and your DD.
