Is a refurbished phone supposed to have other peoples apps on it

Options
My daughter had her i-phone 4 stolen and we made a claim on separate insure2go policy. After a bit of a delay she was sent a replacement (not in a box, no headphones, no cover) which has a password protection and someone else's apps such as weight watchers! I have told her to check if she can download i tunes etc as i phones are set to be used on one device only (I think) but she is worried all her tunes will be wiped. Is it normal for a refurbished phone to come with other peoples apps and log in info and is it at all likely plugging it into her computer to access her i tunes etc will cause her problems? I thought refurbished meant the phone was as new although it isn't new.

No, thats not normal. You should contact the company to have it replaced. If it has another users apps on it then its NOT refurbished.

It should not have anything other than the Factory Reset state - no instructions, charger or cables (as you gave these already).

The quickest way around it is to 'restore factory settings' - this will wipe the other users data and you can start again from scratch.

The OP shouldn't have to do that though, its not what they should have received, yes its probably easier to do it though.

Previous customer data doesn't necessarily indicate the handset hasn't been refurbished. It is unacceptable however and the OP should return the handset.

Before you wipe it, contact the previous owner and find out the true provenance of the phone. You might for example be told it was returned because of a fault which was never repaired.

Some people are a little too precious.

    Does the phone work? Yes...
Is the phone damaged in any way? No....
Will the couple of apps be removed with a factory reset? Yes....

So where is the problem? Why cist yourself and the company some time and money, for what can be resolved in a couple of taps?

The problem is that the insurance company appears to have misled the OP about the provenance of the iPhone. A reconditioned iPhone is like a brand new iPhone but is manufactured with previously used parts, except for the battery which has a much more limited lifespan. The performance of a used battery will be lower than a new battery, and any consumer should reasonably reject a used battery. This is clearly not a reconditioned iPhone, but one that has been used and subsequently returned by someone else. The OP needs to ascertain the reason for that return.

The company needs to know though. If they are using a supplier with lax QA issues it needs fixing. It is possibly a one off but loss of customer data can be a big issue.
