Previous owner planted ivy and it was lovely, but the neighbour complained constantly about it, and it brought earwigs, beetles, spiders... I loved the idea of Wisteria instead, but it only flowers for a short time, after which you have a nice collection of sticks..

Someone recommended Solanum Crispum (potato vine). It's already 8ft and only in its second year of growth.. Produces cascades of blue-purple flowers that hang around from early summer to late autumn. Proven hardy so far, and goes well with clematis or roses. Just beautiful.0 -
Number 43

Now you see I always think it's a bit pretentious to give a name to a property that is in a position where a number has already been allocated and is perfectly adequate.
Nothing screams Hyacinth Bucket faster than an average house on an average street being called 'something twee cottage'... sorry.:hello:0 -

The way ivy clings onto the brickwork is scary. Cut it down early before it takes control. That's what I'd do.0
