I am probably wrong, but teh IQ seems a little less girly/pensioner than it's equivalents such as Micras, Aygos and Smarts.

The IQ can take 4 people if necessary (the 2 in the back wont want to be in it for too long though)

Yes it can definitely take 2 in the back. I'm 5ft8 and could sit in the back no problem. Though I wasn't there for a really long commute ;)

For long journeys it tends to be better to be in a larger car - they tend to be more stable, less succeptable to wind / large traffic passing, less wearing generally.

I do plenty of long journeys in my Yaris. Not a 'large' car but feels very stable and its fine in the wind. Its spacious inside and very comfortable.
  • I just swapped my Smart four 4 for an Hyundai i10.....love it

Don't see a problem with an IQ or any other small car for commuting.

The consensus from the old hands on MSE is that the ideal car for a commute is a 2 litre Diesel Mondeo. I don't think people on here realise how far small cars have come in the last decade in terms of quality and driveability. The interior quality of an IQ is a better place to be than countless Euroboxes.

And the main factor that they are forgetting is that in the rush hour on the M25 you aren't exactly moving at high speeds if at all and your left foot will thank you if you go for an autobox.

  • I looked at the Aygo, iQ, and Yaris when I bought my current car. I had it narrowed down to a choice between Yaris and iQ. I'd had 2 Yaris before but have always thought the iQ looked great ever since I saw the first one. Its so unique, there's nothing else like it on the market.

In the end I went for the Yaris as there was no Touch and Go on the iQ. But when you sit in the iQ it feels like a really big car, though those of you who've never been in one won't believe that ;) Its so well designed that you'd never feel cramped in it.

Someone mentioned other cars like Micra or Smart mentioned above, well there's no comparison, the iQ is in a different class. I wouldn't buy either of those, a Micra is too grannyish and the Smart looks really cheap.
