Got this from Virgin Media out of the blue today (there was no "as discussed"):
We don't use the landline, just broadband (20MB) and the TV L package. We don't pay any other provider money for a line rental!
Any tips or thoughts for haggling etc?
"Over 100 channels as discussed gives the channels you like to view" -- sounds like it's the same L TV package we've always had?!
"The new offer I can do for you to save money includes:
Over 100 channels as discussed gives the channels you like to view - a brand new Recordable TiVo box - broadband upgrade to our 30mg speed & a new wireless router.
The landline is included.
Total cost per month is £40.99 ( includes your line rental. You currently pay Virgin £34.65 per month - but you also pay another provider approx £15 for a line rental alone.
This would guarantee a saving for you each month."

Are you telling us this because it's a good deal?0

Huh? Sorry for the confusion I was a bit tipsy when I posted that. No, I meant that it seemed a bit of a falsehood where they say 'you also pay another provider approx £15 for a line rental alone.' -- because we don't pay another provider. Why do you think they might have said that?
I'm genuinely thinking of going broadband-only and scrapping the TV service. Freeview is pretty okay!0 -

Most people tend to have some kind of landline, so they assumed as you didn't have one with them, you must have it with someone else.
it sounds like the standard deal, 40.99 is the normal price for that collection, and i think the TV would by M+ not L.
check out their Essential Collection, which is what they are quoting you.
are you sure you currently have TV L ? if so, then you already have a pretty good deal.
Basic Broadband and TV L usually costs over £50 a month0 -
Thanks for the feedback guys -- will check it out0
