TIVO set up

Buying Tivo boxes through a 3rd party is illegal. Nobody actually owns the Tivo box apart from Virgin Media (unlike Sky boxes), so the ones sold on Ebay are actually stolen property and Virgin won't install them because they are coded to each account. Just a heads up. I'd order through Virgin, ring them up and try to get a good deal for one. They are worth it your whole TV experience changes.
For the sake of completeness then it's good for you to point this out roxy to other readers however when I say I'm going to buy her one I mean I'm going to ring virgin and agree the package and price and buy it from them.0 -
Hi Lonestar fan,
you dont have to do anything other than call Virgin media.
They come out with the Tivo box and fit it for you.
I had to pay £50 for ther Tio box as I took the 500Mb version instead of the 1Tb and £3 extra a month for the service but got to keep my old box so its a cheap version of multi room.
I work away from home for up to 6 weeks at a time and have never used more than 70% of the memory so 500Mb is 100's of hours of TV. I would not be without it.
As others have said the Internet is through the Cable itself.
Just let the Virgin instalation guy do all the work.
Any more info on installation would be gratefully received knowing the very difficult circumstances I'm working in.0 -

Basically your current box is moved to another room of your choice for example a bedroom.lonestarfan wrote: »Secondly I suppose my question ought to have been what does an engineer need to do. I don't want an engineer in the house as he cannot work as there's no room. Its in the middle of refurbishing everything so all is upside down and all stacked up so no getting behind this and that etc. I've created space in front of the tv and can easily swap it over myself if its no new cabling and runs off the existing co axl. But if its new cabling and this that and the other then I won't bother as its gonna cause a lot of anxiety as you can't get to cables in the garage or cables in the corner etc without doing a full removal lol! Also might be better to buy it after Christmas when it's cheaper maybe? As we don't need it for Christmas.

Well speaking from experience all the engineer did was swap the Tivo for the other box, connect the Tivo up, show you wahts what and sort out the other box in whatever room you want it in. I dont recall any new cabling being needed. Maybe it is a good idea if you wait till after xmas to get it soted.0 -
Thanks DCFC. I wasn't specific again lol! We won't be sorted out after Christmas as its probably a 6-9 month sort out. I meant buy it after Christmas as maybe the price will be cheaper after Christmas? Or could it be that there's lots of deals on before Christmas. Tricky really to know when's the best time to get a deal from virgin - before or after Christmas?0

Yes I see what you mean, most of the time its a case of swap the 2 boxes over and connect it up, call the office to activate the Tivo and your done (I remember mine took a bit longer, he couldn't find a card that worked ) and then sort out the cabling for the second box to what room you want it in.0 -
Hi Lonestarfan,
DCFC has answered the question.
The VM Engineer came in and basically unscrewed the cable from the back of my old box handed it me and screwed the cable into the Tivo box. Called the office and activated the Tivo box Job done.
I had already intalled wireing in my house for a certain "German Freeview box" which I had removed before the Engineer arrived. I carried my old Virgin box upstairs and screwed the cable in the back and I had multiroom
I would get it before Christmas just so you can record all the stuff thats on.
Please note if you get a Tivo box you agree to a new 1 year contract. Was not a problem for me as I had already negotiated a good deal at the end of my 1st year tie in.
Hope this answers your question.Debts as of 01/june/08
