TIVO set up

I'd like to get my mum a TIVO Box for Xmas. She has virgin tv XL which has its own box and a virgin tv cable in the back of it. But the virgin cable Internet wire is only in one place in the hall which is miles from the lounge tv. I've read that a TIVO box uses the Internet. So how do I get the virgin cable Internet from the hall all the way to the other end of the lounge? Thanks a lot if anyone who can help.

First idea that springs to mind is Powerline adapters
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004INVKP4/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers
Plug one into the router/powerpoint, another into the Tivo/powerpoint. Set up works well in my Mother in Law's house for Xbox/extra Sky box0 -
My TiVo box runs entirely from the TV cable with no internet cable. So the tivo box would be a straight swap with the current XL box. ........unless I'm completely missing something0

I thought that too. So maybe I've misunderstood.
Does anyone elsewhere have a TiVo box that they can answer this question please. I can't really run an extension cables as its too far. I'm wondering if I can use the wifi that we've set up in the hall. I don't really know what tivo is but I think it needs Internet for downloading apparently.0 -
TiVo is just a virgin box with a hard drive so you can record (much the same as the virgin v+ box with a bigger hard drive)0

Yup - it is a direct swap and it HD its own exclusive channel on the co-ax for Internet backhaul of on-demand and standard channels.0

Sounds really easy then - sounds like its just a replacement of the old with a new TiVo box. I don't mind that! I think I can just about tackle that lol. I'm going to get her one for Christmas now then. Thanks for the help.0

Hi Lonestar fan,
you dont have to do anything other than call Virgin media.
They come out with the Tivo box and fit it for you.
I had to pay £50 for ther Tio box as I took the 500Mb version instead of the 1Tb and £3 extra a month for the service but got to keep my old box so its a cheap version of multi room.
I work away from home for up to 6 weeks at a time and have never used more than 70% of the memory so 500Mb is 100's of hours of TV. I would not be without it.
As others have said the Internet is through the Cable itself.
Just let the Virgin instalation guy do all the work.Debts as of 01/june/08

Buying Tivo boxes through a 3rd party is illegal. Nobody actually owns the Tivo box apart from Virgin Media (unlike Sky boxes), so the ones sold on Ebay are actually stolen property and Virgin won't install them because they are coded to each account. Just a heads up. I'd order through Virgin, ring them up and try to get a good deal for one. They are worth it your whole TV experience changes.0

Good morning.
It's a straight swap to a Tivo box, the internet comes thru the existing cable. No need for any new cables.
I have one and they are brill.0 -

Lets just clarify this. If they are Virgin TiVo boxes you are correct, but TiVo was originally launched in the UK in 2002 long before VM launched theirs so there a plenty of non VM TiVo boxes around a perfectly legal to sell and buy second-hand.0
