hi, I have a Samsung galaxy Europa phone on contract with 3.
the contract ends in January and I want to reduce costs so thought id get a payg sim like giff gaff (tho someone mentioned ovivo, any thoughts?)
would I be able to turn the internet bit of the phone off? or would it just not work anyaway with a payg sim?
I don't want the temptation of using (and paying for) phone internet.
thanks for your time :T

The contract will reach it's minimum term it won't end unless you cancel
If your phone is locked to 3 it will need unlocking to use another network
Ovivo does work well it's on the Vodafone signal so you would need to know it's ok in your area GiffGaff uses O2 so same applies
Some people complain about the speed for Ovivo but works ok for meIt's not just about the money0 -
As silk said but you would need to turn data off on the phone as most apps tend to use some in the background. I think thats an android phone so it will have an option for 'mobile data'. Turn that to off and you wont have any data costs. Also when you are looking at providers you need to look at the base network they use to get an idea of what coverage will be like.0

The best thing to do when on pay as you go is to leave the wifi turned off, but turn of 3G as that is what you are charged for.0

Ovivo are certainly worth a look. Get your SIM now before the price goes up again (it has a few times so it seems likely that it will again). You will need to get your phone unlocked. I would get "3" to do it now. They will charge around £15.
An alternative would be the 321 Pay As You Go deal on "3" and it may be possible to get "3" to convert your contract SIM to this.
I've never had to cancel a contract with "3" but my previous dealings with their call centre have been painful.
One tip about PAC (moving your number). It is a 30 days notice period, so phone up exactly 30 days before your contract ends to get the PAC code. Then wait about 25 days and use the code to transfer the number. At that point you loose (but still have to pay for) the remainder of the 30 days service.
Because of the need to get and use a PAC code, Ovivo might be easier to do than PAYG on "3".
If you are prepared to loose your number then you could just get a "3" SIM. You wouldn't need the phone unlocked either.0
