Is there any chance of moving closer to where your partner works?

We are trying but we are on a waiting list :?
  • Is there no way you can increase your credit card payments and have it paid off before baby is born? What are logs?

You will be eligible to possibly working tax credit, child tax credit and child benefit once baby is born.
I am trying to get him too. Its a £500 debt. So it can be paid before its born.

Those bills add up to £1169, so well within the anticipated joint income of £1400.

To reduce further, are you mobiles still within contract? Look at cutting these down to the lowest contract possible, my husband's is only £8 a month for example. He has an old iPhone from my last contract.

They reimburse some of them but due to zero hours contract - there is no way in determining an income if you get me.

What you state gives you quite a lot of disposable income, if you wanted to you could pay off the credit card in one go. If you are spending what you state then by the time your baby arrives you will have been able to save up quite a lot of money.
  • I had a 50% salary cut following redundancy a few years ago, and thought that was tight, however this year I was made redundant just before we discovered I was pregnant, so we now really know what tight feels like. It's such a clich!, but you really do manage to cut your cloth according to its width. Over the last 3 years our household income has reduced over 66%, so while our figures are higher, believe me, I do know how you feel.

We have spent a few months adjusting things to live off my husbands salary, so that maternity allowance will feel like an extra. After reconciling our bills and paying off as much as we could ( which has made our savings dwindle admittedly) and driving down our monthly outgoings, I'm starting to feel more comfortable about things finally, which is great, as I'm now at the stage where I'm able to start my maternity allowance claim should we need to.

The advice about an SOA given by others is excellent. Hang in there, there are some great people here that will help you organise your thoughts & identify saving opportunities. Most of all, be strict with yourself about worrying. Being cautious about spending is good, but do not allow yourself to descend into headless-chicken style worrying, as it is not good for you, or the baby.

Finally, give yourself a pat on the back for foreseeing possible issues in advance while you still have a chance to make changes & avoid disaster.

Continue to work as long as you can before baby is due to get full salary. Once baby is born, you will be entitled to tax credits and CB that will up your salary. From your budget, it sounds that this will make up the salary. If it is still an issue, sell your car and buy another one when you go back to work, assuming you intend on taking over 6 months off.
