Yes you can keep your landline number. You'll still be on a BT line since EE is not an LLU service. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I have now been offered a new deal which includes unlimited broadband with a speed up to 9 MB, but I would have to switch my line rental over as they no longer do broadband only deals. The total cost would be £31.75 a month "with a £6 recurring credit for 12 months plus 1 month free". This would be a 12 month contract. I could potentially save around £10 per month. It does sound tempting, though I am a little anxious about switching from BT (am I likely to be able to keep my landline no ?). Any thoughts on the offer ? Thanks again.
The offer is very bad. You can go with talktalk and get unlimited broadband upto 16mb for 17.90 a month inc line rental. https://sales.talktalk.co.uk/product/broadband/simplybb
I am with talktalk, no problem at all.0 -

..Only if you are on an exchange which has been unbundled by TalkTalk:)0 -
I'm paying £15 a month, plus BT line rental for the fibre optic speed of 35Mb download, 7Mbps upload according to uswitch.com. The BT test claims 38/9. Will be getting £100 Sainsbury voucher. I couldn't be bothered with Quidco.
I just upgraded to the BT Infinity 40GB package, which is optical fibre to the green cabinet on the pavement. The BT engineer will come and change the master socket to a VDSL one, for which there is a £30 connection fee. They post the HomeHub 5 to you for about £6.
I thought I would have to watch my usage, which is 40GB a month, but they are saying the usage monitor is not working for a "small number of customers", so they won't charge me if I go over the limit, so for the moment, it's effectively unlimited. You can always upgrade to Unlimited if you need to.
For £5 more a month, you get BT TV, which currently includes BT Sport, and the TV streaming does not count towards the 40GB. You get a set top box connected to the router, just like the Now! box. I understand BT overpaid to outbid Sky for some crucial football rights, so you might find the Sky Now! pointless soon.
I find regular browsing doesn't use that much, and 40GB should be plenty for one person. For a big family, I think Unlimited is the way to go. The BBC iPlayer doesn't use that much, if you avoid the HD version of programs. I record most things with a PVR any way.
The amount of voucher keeps changing, and it's £50 right now for what I went for. Wait a few days, and it will be £100 again.
Never understood anyone who goes for fibre and not an unlimited data allowance no matter how many in the household. Surely fibre is for streaming things like netflix and sky go and 40Gb is paltry if you get value for money from these services. Fibre is a false economy if you are only using it for browsing etc imo. I'm miles from the exchange but still get standard BB at 6mb which suffices for all the (flawless) streaming/fast browsing i need and the unlimited download aspect means I have no worries abou ridiculous extra charges. £7/mth plus line rental with no min commitment.0 -

What I actually do is to have two broadband connections when I have tenants, usually one on cable, one on phone line. The extra connection is funded by the rent, and Unlimited. It's meant to be resilient, so if one path dies, we still have connection. Currently, it's just me, so the cable broadband has been cancelled.
Funny you should say Netflix. Just started a 30 day free trial, and viewing in 1080SuperHD mode (at least that's what the top left corner of the screen says). Can't tell how much I am using, as the BT Usage monitor isn't working, so the My Account message says they won't charge me if I go over. Don't think I will subscribe to Netflix, and will cancel before New Year. As expected, a few premium titles, with lots of fillers.
If they do more independent movies, I would subscribe.
A return by Oyster to Prince Charles cinema in Leicester Square is about £5, plus the movie ticket, and the screening times are limited.
Somebody is going to say I can check my usage by logging into the router: I have. Two weeks of surfing, with no holding back used about 500MB, including Skype and a little Youtube. I expect a Netflix movie is about 2GB, possibly 3GB in HD.
Not everything is available on catch-up, and recording on PVR is free. VoD on Channel 4 drives me crazy, with the enforced adverts.
Plan B is to upgrade to Unlimited.0
