Nail Gel and UV drying machine

just having a bit of a search for info on using normal polish with the base/top coat of gel, & found this interesting blog where it's been done (china glaze purple is where it's mentioned last, refers to it earlier too).
so the 'gel/gelly sandwich' can be done, but the normal polish must be 100% air dry before applying any gel top coat & curing. i found info on the salon geek forum which said this too & that some polishes work better than others so it's just trial & error.
i've decided that i'm going to be sensible for once & not go buying loads of new gel polish until after i've done at least one removal. i'll follow the removal instructions/hints & tips etc., but if this damages my nails in any way, i can't see me carrying on with gel...0 -
Sorry for bringing this one up again.
Can anyone tell me where they get their acetone from?
Many thanks0 -
I bought a small bottle from chemist (possibly B**ts) but when I lived before I could get it from Sally Beauty Store, a few don't do retail just trade, but lots do. HTHThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0

i got mine from this seller on ebay, just the 100ml bottle as i wasn't sure if i'd be carrying on with gel nails. i've done a removal on one nail now & all was ok, soaked the little pad on the foil wrap, wrapped tightly & put my nail in warm water for 10 mins (trying not to get any in the foil), the polish just crumbled off & i didn't have to use the scraper.
anyone thinking of getting other polishes, bluesky brand was mentioned earlier. i did a bit more reading on salon geek forum & so many of them on ebay/amazon are knock off brands from china, some comply with health & safety (allergic reactions can be common), some don't. i had already ordered a bluesky polish from ebay before reading this (which has applied ok, after 3 coats, with no reaction) but i'll be sticking to Gelish from Harmony in future. few more pennies, but it's a recognised brand (still cheaper & more colours than sensationail).0 -
Thinking about getting a kit for my girlfirend as she's always complaining that she needs to do her nails every day.
A work collegue recommended the nk1 nailac shellac professional at £110. Is this kit worth it over the Red Carpet Machine one?
I'm not sure about the Sensationail kit as many people complain that the colours are limited and are hard to move.
Thanks.
P.S go easy on me. I know nothing about nail polishes and whatnot.0 -
i can't comment on the LED/UV machines or other systems apart from sensationail, but the i've used Bluesky & Harmony Gelish brand polishes too now (i'll only be using Gelish in future i think) & they work fine with the kit that came with Sensationail. i didn't have any issue removing the Sensationail polish, a bit of a faff but it all came off ok with no damage.
lots of reviews for Red Carpet on QVC, sometimes they have deals too.
just had a quick look at NK1 Nailac (think it's one of the many copies of the original CND Shellac by the way, shouldn't really call itself Shellac), seems to get good reviews on amazon but i think calling it professional is a bit of a stretch, a nail tech might tell you otherwise!0 -
sensationail starter kit on offer at boots again, £52.50 instead of £105.
edit: showing as sold out now, sorry...0
