Reed job site

Hi

Lately I've noticed that Reed job site has far less jobs posted, but what is really strange is the fact that for a job that would normally have 100+ applications it only says a few. Even ones posted days ago have very few, some still say 1 or even 0.

Is it just a site glitch or have I missed something?

Just a bit unsure about applying for jobs through there now. I know some used to be fake jobs but aside from that it seemed alright before.

Anyone know anything about what has been going on with Reed?

I have never seen a fake job or applied for a fake job on Reed

Yes some jobs don't have may apply and some have over 100

Depends on the job and I see 50 + jobs I look at a day if not more.

    Sounds like a database glitch.

I had an email followed by a text message this morning from someone at Reed about a potential job they thought I would be interested in, with a number to call her direct.

It read a bit spammy to me although the link appeared to be a genuine (although the job wasn't of any interest).

I've had an account on reed for ages so it's odd that they've just started sending out personal emails. Maybe the low number of applications is genuine and they're getting desperate?

    Odd.
  • If there's far less jobs being advertised, its probably down to it being less than five weeks until Christmas, so most places will be fully staffed now. On the bright side, in about six weeks next years summer jobs will be starting to advertise.

It's not always obvious jobs are fake. Some agencies advertise something that sounds real - say an admin job or general retail job - to get your details/your name on their books.

Ok, say I search admin within a 20 mile radius. There's only been 32 jobs within the last 3 days and 3 of them are for a personal trainer. The one with the highest number of applications - just 27 applications and that's a general admin job posted yesterday that would usually have at least 2 or 3 times that amount by now.

Just a couple of months ago it was rare to see any job with less than 20 applications even when posted that day and when I did that same search and there were far more jobs listed.

That was my thought but it's been like this a month or more. You think they'd have fixed it by now...unless they haven't noticed.

I've had personal emails before. I have a feeling most come from Total Jobs but I reckon some have come through Reed.

It's been the same for a month or so. Other job sites still have more. Perhaps not a great deal more on some days and many not actually related to the search but they have more.

Even so, there's still lots of unemployed people wanting jobs, especially considering it is Christmas soon, so even if there are less jobs why is no one applying all of a sudden?

Less jobs are advertised near to Xmas - fact. Less people in work look for a new job as they want to get xmas bonuses first and have the xmas party :)

Unemployment is still high though and so, especially with less jobs advertised, you'd think there would still be a (fairly) high number of applications for each job.

Applications are still high on other sites so it seems odd that it would be stupidly low on Reed which is a well known job site.

Mot people applying for jobs are ones in work

I have tracked jobs when Reed used to show all applications not just saying over 100.

For example I have tracked a contract role which got 40 applicants and a perm role like for like had over 300 applicants.

This is because someone in work would not leave a job for a 3 month contract but someone unemployed would.

I still see it now there

    like this

    51 people http://www.reed.co.uk/jobs/accounts-payable-purchase-ledger-clerk-temp-contract/23916457#/jobs/london?keywords=ledger&contract=True&pagesize=100

    Advertised a week ago

and one here 3 days ago with 100+

Even so they pretty much all were 50+ a month ago and I believe my area has a higher unemployment rate compared to a lot of other places.

So the chances of a job that would normally get 100+ applications to now be lucky to get 1 or 2 seems a bit stupid, especially when it's only the case on one site.

Was there some sort of meeting of employed people that on a set day they suddenly weren't going to apply for any jobs through Reed anymore for the run up to Christmas?
