I was not feeling great last night so went to bed at 20:30.
At about ten minutes to nine, the telephone rang and I started to get up to answer it but my answerphone took control and the caller instantly terminated their call.
I checked the number this morning and rang it. The recorded message stated that I had been called by CANCER RESEARCH UK:-

I see that these chuggers are "are always paid a set hourly rate" so I expect that this is why they cold-called me at night on my TPS registered number.
So, reported them to the ICO and made a mental note never to have anything to do with CANCER RESEARCH UK, although I have never expressed any interest before, but will now start an agressive ANTI CANCER RESEARCH UK as they appear to be grifting pond-life.
OK, rant over and breathe.....

Ringing up the charity and telling them might have been more productive0

I think charities are exempt from doorstepping and TPS rules as they're not 'traders'. The ICO won't get involved. Instead it might have been better to email the charity.
Not that it makes it better of course. I don't want to be phoned by anyone asking for money regardless of how legitimate a charity it is."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
We donate to Christian Aid (£5 per month SO). They've called several times recently, trying to get us to up our donation. On the last call I told the caller "Call us again and I'll be STOPPING the current donation. So your choice is - stop calling and keep getting £5, or call again and get NOTHING".
I've not had any calls since.

Called the number this morning and asked not to be called again. But I should not have to do this.....
Also emailed them (Cancer Research UK) and asked why I had been called when TPS registered and had no previous contact with them.
Now awaiting reply and that means 5 days as per web site quoted....I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -

They aren't exempt from either, in fact they are specifically mentioned as being included. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

http://www.thirdsector.co.uk/news/993662/New guidance from the Information Commissioner's Office says the decision to call should depend on the circumstances
Charities can make fundraising calls to supporters registered with the Telephone Preference Service if they believe the supporter would be unlikely to object to such calls, the Information Commissioner's Office has confirmed.
David Evans, a senior data protection practice manager at the ICO, said at a meeting in London earlier this month that the organisation would not investigate these technical breaches of the rules unless they generated complaints.
The Fundraising Standards Board subsequently asked the ICO to publish written guidance clarifying Evans's comments.
In a new guidance note, which has been published on the FRSB's website, the ICO says: "In practice, a charity might judge that, given the nature of the relationship between them and the supporter, they might be able to make a marketing call to that subscriber despite TPS registration.0 -
That applies only to people who are already supporters of the charity though, not cold calls. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

yes, if they think you wont object to calls, therefore if you are not a supporter and would object then if you are registered with the TPS they should not call youadouglasmhor wrote: »That applies only to people who are already supporters of the charity though, not cold calls.
I think the thing with charities is that it is usually local volunteer fundraisers that make these calls from their home phones and they dont have access to any dont call listsCharities can make fundraising calls to supporters registered with the Telephone Preference Service if they believe the supporter would be unlikely to object to such calls,0 -

Be a shame to get a hefty fine for being well meaning. Because I bet the charity would wash their hands of it and them if it did get pursued. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
