No refund without a receipt

Options
I was gifted a Lenovo laptop from my uncle over a year ago and it has become faulty. It has a two year warranty and was purchased from Comet. My uncle has since died and he never gave me a receipt.
I returned the laptop to Lenovo, and they say it cannot be repaired and will give me a refund, but they need a copy of a receipt.
There is no way I can get it and I know he paid cash, so there is no bank trail. So i'm stuck without a laptop and Lenovo will not refund me without the receipt or proof of how much he paid. i don't know what I can do.

    Whats wrong with it ?
Have you looked into how much it would cost to get it fixed ?

A laptop receipt is not usually the sort of thing that people would throw away. It would be worth speaking to the person who dealt with your uncle's paperwork to see if it can be fished out.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

You say it has a two year warranty - did you fill it out and return it?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Lenovo can't repair it and they made it. It's a fault on the motherboard and you can't get spare motherboard.

    The warranty isn't the issue.

Well. If you have no proof of how much was paid for it, how big a refund are you wanting?

Why? Are you going to refund me.?
All I want is a working or replacement laptop, it was Lenovo that wants to refund me because they cannot repair it.
I just want a latop withthe same specs, so whatever it will cost to buy one then that is what I want.

I appreciate the answers but please make them constructive and stop wasting my time with daft questions or statments.

    Thank you.
  • The answer is that it is your uncle who had all the rights with regard to the laptop he purchased - you don't have any. If lenovo are willing to refund you the cost of the purchase that is above and beyond what they must do and they can put conditions on that refund - including that you must produce a receipt. I'm sorry but without the receipt you are out of luck and not likely to get anything back.
