Scam phone call - how thick are they?

I really starting to get annoy by the stupidity of scam phone calls I get. It's just insulting. The latest today was:

"This is broadband company calling"
"Yes, and who is it that supplies my broadband?"
Click, brrrrr.

I mean they could at least guess a name. I live in a village. Maybe they are ringing all the houses around looking for the village idiot :-). You need to one not to ask "who are you", wouldn't you?

  • Actually, malc_b, we're very near Chippenham and also, like you, had the same call a couple of days ago. Husband answered pretty much the same as you did; 'which company is that then?' and they hung up...

I ask the caller`s name, number and company then tell them they`re cold calling and I`ll be reporting them to the IOC.
That`s when I get the click brrrrrrrrrrrr

Far more efficient, innit? Eliminate all the non-idiots in 10 seconds. Only a tiny minority will fall for the scam so they don't want to waste time with the 99% who won't.

As above if you're bored pretend to be an idiot and string them along for a bit :D

  • Lol! I'm not sure if those scammers were really smart to think they'd fool people with their scam scripts or too stupid to even think so.
  • Did you get the scammer's phone number? How about you give them a dose of their own medicine? Report them to Callercenter. With about 100 000 visitors on the website daily, you do not only raise a warning to a lot of people but with the scammer's phone number also listed there, let's see how he'd feel when he starts getting a surge of annoying calls.

Unfortunately most of these scum callers from East of Calais are "number witheld" or "no number available" -so much as I'd love to phone them back.....
I've tried phoning back some of the UK nuisance callers -again,unfortunately, the majority are not answered.
