It wasnt a quote - it was an guesstimate. The guy wasnt offering to do the work for that.
You could easily spend double that or more by the sounds of it, plus as others have said once you start welding, more holes appear and you ending up welding on plates to weld plates on to. PLUS no doubt some of those will be in awkward places or need other internal or external parts stripped to get at.
Welding is neither cheap nor fun.
I know more about welding than you are assuming...
But £150 is the figure that is being mentioned, if the garage can give him a guarantee on that price or even anything up to double it. Then it's a no brainer to get it repaired and use it for another 12 months.
Or use it for 6 months and sell it on with some mot still on it (this is what I would do)0 -

I think you missed that the £150 was the tester's guesstimate, and that the work would be being done elsewhere.0 -

Yep, they make a lovely job of that sill don't they? Cars rusted a lot more in those days but people still drove them. More than once in bygone days I've looked at the road passing by through holes in the floor!
Yeah, I leant to drive (round fields) in a rusted out Renault 4 with a plank for the driver's heels to rest on cos the footwell wasn't there. It never did fold up despite our best efforts
In this case, without knowing the true extent of the corrosion it's impossible to say how realistic the price is. If it's 3 small holes on easily accessible bits that just happen to come under the 30cm rule for the suspension / belt mounts then it's probably realistic because it's unlikely that major reconstruction will be needed to give a reasonably durable repair - plate, drill and waxoyl will likely see it good for a couple or 3 years.
If it's inaccessible or right by the mounts then it's another story!0
