BT Sport Options For Sky Subscriber?

I'm trying to help an elderly friend to economise on his TV bill, and am getting bogged down in the BT Sport options. He currently has a Sky sub plus Sky Sports. He wants to cancel Sky and take up a BT offer of BT Sports for £7pm. But as an existing BT Infinity customer, he should be getting BT Sports 'free' anyway? So what are they offering him for £7?
Next question: since he has a Sky+ box and service, I understand he can get his BT Sports service via Sky (rather than via YouView)? However, does that require him to have a Sky sub, or simply to have a Sky box and viewing card? If the latter, he can cancel Sky, still get BT Sports, and use the Sky FTA channels for his other needs?
If he needs to keep a Sky sub, then he could just cancel Sky Sports and still have BT Sports via the Sky platform? So just paying for the basic Sky service?
I still need to go and check 'on site', but I don't think that the property has a working aerial, so BT Sports via an aerial and Freeview will only be possible at extra cost.

Hi macman,
BT Sport via YouView requires a TV Essentials package at £5 a mth, or £7 a mth for an additional 18 Multicast channels via his Infinity line.
BT Sport via Sky does not require an active Sky subscription, only an active viewing card. And its free.
And he'll also get access to the BT Sport app too and this again is free.
Hope that helps.0 -
Thanks. I'm going to suggest that he adds BT Sport to Sky now, then considers if he can just manage without Sky Sports (or Sky at all) in the future.
Still trying to unravel what the '£7 BT Sports offer' is that he can get for free anyway! No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Could it be a Sky platform activation fee?0

He's quoting me £7 per month, not a one-off payment. One of these queries that is easily resolved face to face, but tricky to pin down over the phone, so I'll make a visit.
Edit: does it matter which Sky box he has? I believe that it is a Sky+ box, but not HD. So presumably that will only get him the SD versions of the BT Sport channels, unless the box is upgraded to HD?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
BT Sport HD isnt free is it , even if you do have BT BB ?
Perhaps that £7 is the HD cost..Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
