When you get married, do you have to pay to change your name on your passport.

Yes. Yes you do.0 -
Yes you do.
You dont have to change it straight away, just wait for the renewal and do it then.
My passport ran out 6 months before we got married, so I waited and was able to renew in new name 3 months before the wedding (had to get paperwork signed by the vicar!) but obv it was post dated and I couldn't use it until day of the wedding.Mini me due March 2014

You do but why dont you just travel in your maiden name?
My passport doesnt run out for 5 years so I will be traveling under my maiden name until thenBest Wins - New York Trip, going Nov 2014: £350 House of Frazer Vouchers: £70 Handbag: Nitro Circus Live Tickets0 -
Yes you have to pay but you don't have to change it if you don't want to.
I didn't update mine to my married name for about 5 years as I was too tight - had too much time left on it to lose. I eventually had 9 months transferred over to the new passport when I sorted it.
Just make sure you make any travel bookings to match your passport, perhaps consider taking a copy of your marriage cert when travelling and I also took out travel insurance in my maiden name. When I had to claim, I explained why the difference and they paid me in my married name no problem.0 -

I'm the same, I bought my passport a few months before I planned to get married so will have to travel in my maiden name for a few more years. OP, if you don't change your passport just make sure that when you book flight tickets that they are also in your maiden name.0 -
Thanks, all good answers, I was concerned because we are going to travel to the USA and you have to get a visa before you go. Passport has 4 years left on it.0

Yes - a friend has just had the pay the new passport price to get one in her married name.
If it were just for travel she wouldn't have bothered but she is an Army wife going to live with her husband on base overseas so it works out easier to use her married name only and all her ID has to be in the same name.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -

Do you mean the Esta? It's unlikely you'd need a visa if you're a UK citizen.
Anyway just complete the Esta in the maiden name.
My passport had another 2 years left on it so I waited until it ran out to change it, when I needed an Esta I just put maiden name on that. Easy.0 -

Just make sure you book your flights in your maiden name and that your esta/visa matches your passport.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
