Cancelling Virgin Media

I have Virgin Media broadband/phone but am with Sky for TV so have just upgraded with Sky to move everything with them, they are coming to install the new phone line on 13th Dec. How do I go about cancelling Virgin Media? I've logged into their website and clicked numerous threads but can't seem to find anything other than I must give them 30 days notice. I remember once reading that cancellation had to be in writing.
